Album Notes
The Water Castle is a Two Album set of original music by Tziona Achishena (Disc Two with Wings of An Angel). Loosely based on a Kabbalistic story, it tells Tziona's story through songs that reflect her life, hopes, struggles, and prayer.

Disc One: Awakening from Below, tells the story of a Princess' flight from captivity to a King, and journey to a wonderous Water Castle, where she finds refuge and is healed from the wounds of her past: through song. The Princess represents our souls, shot with poison arrows by life's woes, longing for someone to mirror back to us our inherent holiness, beauty, and spiritual freedom. From lyrical, heart-felt ballads, to fun and funky dance tunes, this album is a musical dialogue between the Princess and her inner Soul Guide (aka her own Voice), and will take you on a journey of the discovery of the light hidden within the darkness, and the joy and hope hidden within our own hearts. Themes of spiritual freedom, the uncovering of Will, and feminine empowerment run throughout the disc. This is a musical journey of transformation. Track 1, "Twister" is a poetic glimpse into life with someone who is, well, a bit twisted. In the search for a way of life beyond blame, our heroine sets off on "The Golden Mile", a journey to the unknown, where the poppy fields of forgetting and the longing for a lost home can set the path in a circle with no exit. She must keep her eyes on the prize, and overcome the desire to go back to "sleep", and stay on the sometimes painful path to true freedom. "No More" is a modern/classic empowerment anthem against abuse, and "Believe in Me" documents a raw choice to walk the spiritual path. "Wake Up and Start Dreaming" is the first appearance of the Soul Guide: the higher part of the Princess' soul, come to awaken her to an alternate reality: outside of time. "Pass Through Water" tells the original Rebbe Nachman story of the Water Castle in rap and chant, with some funky grooves to keep it flowing. "Strange Bird" is for everyone who ever felt like they didn't belong, to dream of the day when we spread our wings and see that the sky is full of other "misfits" like us, strange birds who find themselves in a strange nest. "Hold the Light", is about knowing our preciousness, keeping an inner spark that the world cannot touch. "The Lost Part of Me" another empowerment over abuse anthem, a rebirth from a spiritual death. "Holy Beggar" was composed by the grave of the Holy Baal Shem Tov, and inspired by the Chassidic tune "Adudale", and the classic gospel of the Staple Singers "Are You Sure?". And "Butterfly" is the reemergance from the Water Castle, with wings and heart intact.

Disc Two: Awakening from Above (with ambient artist Wings of An Angel), is like a direct transmission from within the Water Castle. Ethereal and dreamlike, it creates a healing sonic environment designed to embrace the listener, bringing about relaxation, rejuvination, and soul discovery. The songs and musical poems on this disc are sometimes reminicent of Rumi, exploring themes of longing, the desire to surrender to something vast and Divine, and an awakening to love. Dialogues of longing take place between "the heart of the world" and a cosmic spring that exists outside of time/space. Mystical experiences, like a direct encounter with a super human creature disguised as a normal person, are given over with wonder and emotion. A Persian love song is sung like a resonant lazer from the innermost point of the heart. Eclectic, unusual, and unique, this album will transport you to another dimension, with angelic, etherial vocals, cellos, piano, harmonium, water sounds, and unparalleled production techniques by ambient artist Wings of An Angel. Recorded in a burst of light and lifeforce energy over a period of less than a month, this album was the "twin" I didn't realize I was pregnant with, surprising me as Disc One was being born. I worked on Disc One for over 2 years, with many different musicians and more complex songwriting. Disc Two was performed entirely by me, in a meditative and intensive creative explosion, inspired by the expansive sound design and resonant alchemy of Wings of An Angel. The lyrics range from unique poetry expressing my own reawakening to life, to ancient Hebrew texts that are repeated as chants, such as "I am asleep but my heart is awake", "man is like a breath, his days are like a passing shadow", "I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine", "like passing shadow I dissapear, as my heart is hallowed within me", and a chant of "halleluyah".

How I was brought into the Water Castle
Picture this: a princess is captured by an evil king, who takes over her will. Somehow, she breaks free, and runs to a wondrous structure: a castle made all of water. She circles the castle, looking for a way in. She is willing to drown in the massive walls of water rather than go back to the king who chases her, but 10 gates open to her in the 10 walls of the castle, as she is struck by 10 poison arrows by the king who would rather see her die than be free. Passing through all chambers, she reaches the center and collapses in an unconscious state, awakening to another reality. A mysterious Beggar with No Hands is able to enter to the inner chamber because he knows the secret of giving 10 types of charity. Witnessing the princess with his listening heart, he gives her a sense of her own preciousness. He shoots her with arrows of Divine Love, a raw, wild, untamed life force energy that ignites her dim but still glowing inner spark in rising flames of living heat, which she expresses through song. The Water Castle catches the song, and reflecting it back upon itself, creates sonic and ultrasonic soundscapes of healing that allow the princess to access her deep inner resources of peace, joy, rest, hope, connection, fire, dance, body and soul energies, which grow and grow, until, in a burst of combustion, this inner light rediscovering itself ejects the poison arrows from within, opening pathways in heart, mind, and body, for new songs to be born, which undergo the same process. She regains her faith in love. The holy No Handed Beggar inspires the princess to discover her own unique healing songs, parables, and poetry, as she sings her hopes, pain, longing, joy, and love, in a rising and swirling, sinking, diving song, 10 types of song, that resonate within her and turn the pain of her past into pathways of ecstasy, living pulsing passages between body, heart, mind, and soul, broken shards of hearts that shine the light off their softening edges to the creation of newborn rainbows, some shiny like dots of brilliant stars on the blackest night sky, others the sound of the sunrise as a new day is created through song. The Beggar departs, having set in motion the outpouring of healing sounds, which resonate in the watery walls. The princess is left to find her way back out, to reemerge into the world. The Water Castle is a sonic healing chamber made up of every song we've ever sung, or loved, as well as all the new songs as yet unborn, and exists outside of time, to hold us in its womb-like embrace of paradox. I was inspired to invite Wings of An Angel to create such a sonic surrounding space after hearing his music, which brought me to the meeting point between conscious and subconscious, sleep and thought, beyond paradox. When the songs I recorded, which were fresh and new, were echoed back to me in his sonic alchemy, the immediate experience was simply, being brought inside the Water Castle. I was now listening from the inside. And that perfectly describes this music...because I would layer the voices, cellos, piano, flutes, etc..., all the while imagining the spaces needed for the resonation alchemy to come, send the mix to Wings of An Angel, who used mysterious ecstatic layer techniques and unknown ways, to turn my songs into spacious water castle human/ angel choirs, and receive back a sound experience that is basically giving to you, dear listener, and to myself as well, a full being experience of what I feel like when I sing. Here, I am singing in front of a cosmic mirror that reflects only my beauty and mystery, leaving me with newly opened caves and pathways inside of my heart. I am like a dreamer, wondering, could this be real? And every song sparks more and more songs and poems, pouring out of me like clear clean waters from the belly of the earth, from the center point of my soul. I have experienced a great awakening, and, in a way, have fallen in love with the magic mirror. But rather than being entranced by a vision of self, it is the spark of the eternal, the bit of G-d in me that I am in love with. Because that mirror reflects a deep place inside of me, where my soul meets all souls...and so I expand and contain within me ever increasing space, inner space in which to travel to hidden, private lands beyond the sight of the human eye.
And, in the pure echoes of our own songs, we find that we ourselves are the Water Castle; the resonant chambers of our being suddenly expanding to encompass all the worlds, finally free to be who we are, and free to love.

This story is based on a portion of "The Seven Beggars" by Rebbe Nachman of Breslav. The story features Seven Holy Beggars: each has a physical "flaw" that hides a great spiritual power. In the same way, we all have some part of ourselves that we consider a flaw. In the end, we may see that what we saw as a "disability" is actually our greatest strength, and that those in this world who seem "disabled" actually often have special abilites or a hightened sense that is reveal only to those willing to look past the externals, and uncover the mysteries.

Thanks and praises to the Giver of New Songs, the One that Creates All. And thanks to Wings of An Angel for this priceless gift.
