ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
SPEAKING IN TONGUES (2003) explores the endless cadences of human speech in relation to music. This unique project combines fresh instrumental improvisations and soundscapes harvested from Uforkestra's 2002 recording sessions with a host of field recordings of human beings doing what they do best (talking).

The vocal panoply includes monologues from such luminaries as Ken Kesey and Ralph Nader; a domestic discussion about household dirt; Doug Sprei's call-in to one of Rochester ignominious talk shows; commentary from a 96-year-old nursing home resident; maniacal evangelical-radio preachers in New Mexico, and much more.

As befits any Uforkestra album, the musical range here runs the gamut: from lounge jazz to rock metal, synth-atmospheric to R & B.... and all of it was improvised on the spot.

This project marks our first collaboration with multimedia artist John Neel, who joined the band during the making of the record and designed the cover. Visit our new site at www.uforkestra.com to see a selection of John's visual lightscapes.
