Album Notes
Between Main Street and a parking lot in Washington, NC, runs a short, narrow by-way between two downtown buildings known as “Union Alley.” On the east side of Union Alley is the building that houses the Inner Banks Artisans' Center, and at the rear of that building, a door leads to the Union Alley Coffeehouse (UAC), home for the last two years of the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association (BCTMA). It is in this small space that the BCTMA congregates on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings for a community "jam.” On weekend nights, the UAC is also home to live music performed by local and regional talent. The UAC offers both an opportunity for musicians of all skill levels to meet to play music together and also an intimate listening room for a variety of music.

It is at the UAC community jams that folks with an interest in learning to play music can begin that pursuit in a friendly and helpful environment. It is a place where folks learn to play with others and improve their skills—and build confidence. But most of all, the UAC is a place to have FUN! Young and not so young, beginners or folks that have been picking and singing for years can each claim a spot in the circle, and when it is their turn, choose a song and take off with it.

The BCTMA's primary goal is to provide opportunities for folks to experience the joy of making music. In this second album project of the BCTMA, we hope you will feel the joy of folks making music in each song. This album spotlights the creativity of original songs composed and performed by some of the BCTMA folks and also the joy of performing traditional and popular songs, showcasing the skill and style of each performer. We hope you enjoy this album and will join us at the Union Alley Coffeehouse to participate in a jam or enjoy a show.
