ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The University of Wisconsin (UW) Russian Folk Orchestra was formed in 1997 by Victor Gorodinsky, s Slavic studies librarian at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. Victor is a professional musician; he was born in Moscow, Russia and immigrated to the United States in 1982.

The Orchestra is made up of traditional Russian folk instruments, balalaikas, domras, and bayans. It also includes other Western instruments, such as a flute, an oboe, and percussion. The repertoire consists mainly of Russian and other East-European folk music, with occasional Russian classical and modern selections.

This is the Orchestra's 4th album, professionally recorded at the studios of the Madison Media Institute; among others, it features two compositions by Victor.
