Album Notes
Vanya is a singer and multi-instrumentalist whose contemporary music builds upon a long-standing tradition in the Mediterranean of meeting of East and West. She sings in English, Spanish and Ladino. Her unique sound fuses Flamenco and Middle Eastern melismatic vocalization with Western musical styles. Her creative projects are based upon a solid foundation in traditional Jazz, Flamenco, Sephardic and Arabic music.
She was recently selected as one of the top ten musicians in the International World of Music Awards from We are Listening after returning to the United States from Israel, Greece and Turkey where she was performing Sephardic music as a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship for Voice and Susan Eliakim Siman Grant. She was also granted the American Friends of Flamenco Award from La Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte for Flamenco singing in Seville, Spain.
