ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Pianist, Composer VanCortlandt, AKA VCN Dejam, got a late start musically but soon found that music heals and transforms the inner soul, reflecting or mirroring the spiritual, visual and auditory senses. Having played numerous Jazz Festivals and music events, writing and performing in Los Angeles with notables in the industry, VanCortlandt has found another venue to share his sonic landscaping and artistic musical impressions.

SmoothJazz.com Review
Cool, stylish, contemporary jazz with solid grooves, feel good melodies and straight ahead jazz sensibilities, that’s the sound of VCN Dejam’s new sub URBAN Life, the street smart new project from pianist/composer VanCortlandt. The versatile songwriter has played jazz fests all over and has written with major music industry notables… his bi-coastal roots ground him in creating music that offers a relaxing freeness capturing the feel of two cultural environments from the east coast to the west, along with an energetic glide that will make you want to move your body! Fans of Bob James and Joe Sample will enjoy VCN Dejam’s breezy approach to jazz! Stand out tracks for me include “South Shore,” “Beach Walk” featuring the dulcet tones of bassist Tony Saunders, and my favorite jam on the project “98 Percent of a Million;” there are twelve exceptional tunes in all with special guests and stellar production. Music heals, and this soulfully stirring release proves that Van can jam!
