Album Notes
I come from a family where sound, music, and song were an ever present and part of rebuilding our family culture in a foreign land. Growing up, I played piano, violin and recorder.
As a young child, my grandmother, a deeply spiritual woman, spent much time humming spirituals as she worked around the house with me at her apron skirts. She occasionally spoke in tongues (spirit language) at church and was the personification of a true matriarch.
My mother became a jazz singer and singing teacher at a young age. She used her voice to entertain crowds with big band accompaniment for much of her adult life.
I experienced sound on a mountain hillside where it flowed from my being through my lips and brought me to my knees in tears with memories of love and unconditional acceptance.
I discovered the sounds living within me that my body longs to express for wholeness and truth. Tuning into the sounds, shapes and energy in the environment around me, giving voice to that which is unable to be expressed with words.
My work is to trust, open, listen and allow my sound to be expressed in as many ways as possible.
Thus this recording project.

Sound has been a healing art form since ancient times, in almost all ethnic cultures. Sound has the ability to affect the vibrant energetic and cellular movement in humans, plants, animals and matter. Many shamanic healers know sound to be a useful tool to animals, plants, people and spirits for healing.
I continue to grow as a human I am inspired to continue claiming all of my birthrights.
Sound is everyone's Birth Right.

"A sound session with Velda invites deep relaxation and activation of intuitive essence. Velda's clear channel of sound has created space for the re-awakening and deeper cultivation of my life's purpose." Danielle B
