Album Notes
Veronika DZHIOEVA is one of the most engaged singers worldwide. She performs in Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Czech, Estonia, Lithuania, USA, China, South Korea, and Japan. Graduated from St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory under Prof. T. Novichenko (the teacher of Anna Netrebko as well), Veronika started her career with the Third prize at the Maria Callas International Competition (Athens, 2005). Her opera debut was executed in 2004 with Mimi in Puccini’s “La Boheme”. Today Veronika Dzhioeva is a leading soloist in “Golden triangle” of Russian opera theaters: Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and Novosibirsk State Opera as well. Such a diverse roles were performed by Veronika, among them La Contessa (Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”) and Donna Elvira (Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”), Thais (“Thais” by Massenet) and Tatiana (Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”), Micaela (“Carmen” by Bizet) and Violetta (“La Traviata” by Verdi), Fiordiligi (Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”) and Elisabetta (“Don Carlo” by Verdi), Mimi and Musetta (Puccini’s “La Boheme”). This bouquet should be decorated by Zemfira (Rachmaninov’s “Aleko”), Marfa (“Tsar’s Bride” by Rimsky-Korsakov), Macbeth (“Macbeth” by Verdi), Maria Stuarda (Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda”), Butterfly (Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”) and Marta (Weinberg’s “The Passenger”). The premiere of Rachmaninov’s “Aleko” (staged by M. Trelinskiy), which took place in St. Petersburg (Mariinsky Theater) and in Baden-Baden under the direction of Maestro Valeri Gergiev, brought a grand success to singer. Next resonant premiere was Donna Elvira in Bolshoi Theater (premiere of “Don Giovanni” staged by D. Chernyakov, 2010). In April 2011 Veronika got standing ovation in Munich and Luzern during the performance of Tatiana (“Eugene Onegin” with Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Mariss Jansons). Mrs. Dzhioeva is working on the stage with many world known stars such as Yuri Bashmet, Mikhail Pletnev, Sergei Leiferkus, Anna Netrebko, and many others.
Veronika successfully cooperates with Italian theatres including Teatro Petruzzelli (Bari) and Teatro Comunale (Bologna). She performed a title role in Donizetti’s opera “Maria Stuarda” which passed with great success in Palermo (Teatro Massimo). Concert life of young singer is also very impressive. Following soprano parts were executed in past seasons: Requiem by Verdi and Mozart, Mahler’s 2nd Symphony, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, “Great Mass” by Mozart, and Rachmaninov’s poem “The Bells” as well. The performance of R. Strauss’s “Four last songs” (conductor A. Shakhmametyev) became an important stage in creative biography of the singer. In Veronika’s concert repertoire considerable role belongs to works of contemporary composers. Russian audience especially memorized vocal cycles “Run of the Time” by Tishchenko and “Weeping of Guitar” by Minkov. Fantasia “Severing Winter” by Anton Tanonov, which was performed in Bologna, got big popularity in Italy. Veronika Dzhioeva is a laureate of numerous competitions, among them Maria Callas Grand Prix (Athens, 2005). International Competition “Amber Nightingale” (Kaliningrad, 2006 – 1st prize), International Klaudia Taev Competition (Parnu, 2007 – 2nd prize), All-Russian Competition of Opera Singers (Saint-Petersburg, 2005), International Glinka Competition (Astrakhan, 2003), International Competition “World Vision” and All-Russian Competition in the name of P. Tchaikovsky. Singer appears to be the owner of great number of theater prizes, including “Gold Mask” and “Gold Floodlight” as well. Veronika was honored with the prize “Paradise” for performance of Lady Macbeth’s part in joint Russian-French staging of Verdi’s opera “Macbeth”. Veronika has been awarded with National Prize of Czech «EURO Pragensis Ars» in 2010. Among numerous records of singer special attention is paid to album “Opera arias”. Dzhioeva’s voice sounds often in movies (“Monte-Cristo”, “Vasil’evskiy Island” and etc.). Telefilm “Winter solo of wave”, wholly devoted to creative work of Veronika Dzhioeva, recently appeared.

Lovely Voice
I'm no opera expert or aficionado, but I liked this album a lot. It is great to play while working or reading or writing album reviews. :D I'll be buying this one on my next order.
