1. Receita de Samba

This is one of the earlier recordings of the album, where the whole band recorded all together. The recording session was a night full of technical challenges since we were still learning the new equipment, but we managed to get the song done in a few takes. Ami's pandeiro and Enrique’ second guitar part add so much authenticity to the tune.

2. Serbian Medley

“Serbian Medley” combines two Serbian folk songs into one. The first tune is “Ruse Kose Curo Imas,” a love song from the Vranjo region of Southern Serbia. The second tune “Na Kraj Sela Cadjava Mehana” is a pub song from the Vojvodina region of Serbia. It was a pleasure to have Pawel’s beautiful cello playing in this track.

3. Pailil

Beneath the sun’s warm rays,
A fire burns in my heart.
When I sense your hot perfume
My eyes shine.

Like the sands of the desert
Your face holds countless secrets.
But with one smile it’s clear
Your heart is open to me.

Lai lai lai…

Like fire…

The moonlight glistens
And plays on your hair.
In the cool night breeze
Your eyes shine.

Your eyes shine.

4. Lost Bird

I feel lost in places I don’t belong to. Finding the basics in life and the pure origin is my cure. “Lost Bird” is my first attempt writing English lyrics to my song. I hope this lyrics speaks to you.

Lyrics:
I lost my way, pretend everyday, trying to win this losing game
Journey my mind, as memory crowds my brain
Those were the days, laughing and crying in our childish ways.
Marching from dusk till dawn in my parade

Walk up the path, open that door, sit down by the fireplace
No one but me, remembering what could have been
Far from my home, feel so alone, only emptiness remains
I'm like a lost bird with broken wings

Lost bird's flying in the sky,
She needs to rest, nowhere to nest
Hoping someday she'll finally find her best
Surrounded by shining city lights,
All I can hear's my mother's lullaby
Humming in my heart, wherever I roam. I long to be home.

Lost bird flying in the sky
I hope someday, she'll find her way

5. Mood Swing

Sylvia Herold and Chuck Ervin are my favorite swing musicians. Their music and kindness influence me in many ways. It was such a dream come true when they agreed to record my own swing tune. Will Kyriazis’ piano solo was a spot on. This may not sound like other ViBO Simfani tunes on the album, but please allow me to love it!

6. Doce de Coco

To me, this tune is a love song with unspoken words. Traditionally, it was played much faster. The magic appears when we slow it down and lay out this captivating melody. Our guitarist Javier Trujillo composed a lovely solo guitar intro, which matches the song perfectly.

7. Lepa Jela

I picked up this tune while passing by Mr. Simo Tesla’s class at a world music camp. The tune got stuck in my head, and I didn’t even know its title. Luckily I got it recorded, introduced it to the band and have been playing it ever since. Later on, I found out it was actually Mr. Tesla’s own song!

8. Dahil Sa'yo

This song arrangement was made for my student’s 90-yr-old grandma’s birthday party. It was well received even though it’s quite different from the traditional versions. A complete surprise came when our little singer from ViBO Music, Arianna, interpreted the song so beautifully. This is her debut song in Tagalog. Big thanks to Arianna’s vocal teacher Mrs. Ann Marie Andres for the coaching!

9. La Cumbiambera

It’s definitely "the party song." Love the percussion section. Great jazz pianist Mr. Eugene Pliner dig up his accordion from garage and jammed in. The composer called our version “sneaky.” We took it as a compliment.

10 Verano

Summer is my favorite season, so I wrote a tune for it. We played it in many different ways at live shows. This studio version is the closest to my initial idea of the song. Thank you Ami for the magic touch!

11. Choro Negro

Brazilian music meets French poetry, The melody is extremely beautiful, but the poetry reading in the middle becomes the highlight. Thank you Audrey for supporting my poetry reading idea and selecting these two beautiful French poems to recite!

12. Awaara Hoon

Theme song from the 1951 classic hindi film, Awaara. I don’t remember watching this film, but somehow remember this charming tune. The middle part of the song is quite challenging to memorize. I think I finally got it right! Also tried using the G-D-G-D tuning at the beginning Indian violin solo.

13. Dahil Sa’yo Instrumental (Bonus Track)

This instrumental version was recorded almost two years ago with some of the former members. I initially decided to go with the vocals version only, but something beautiful in this instrumental version makes it difficult to give up. I’m keeping them both!

14. Morning, My Love

The original version of “Lost bird” is called “早晨, my love” in Cantonese. Based on a true story, the lyrics talks about losing a loved one, but she will still be watching over you. My dear friend Catherine and I created this quick demo in couple hours, and she has become the perfect voice to tell this story!

Lyrics
(Verse 1)

(Chorus)

(Out-tro)
明天我雖走我路,
望向昨日,我都看到。
