Album Notes
Vick Allen-Soul Music
The vocals are searing and soulful while the music lays down some of the best R&B and Soul tracks ever heard. It’s Vick Allen, the Velvet Voice of Soul & R&B Music and his new CD, SOUL MUSIC.
“Soul Music, “produced by Soul 1st Records and written by Vick Allen, is flavored with great songs such as the radio-hot lead single, “Soul Music” which Vick sings “ain’t nothing like some Soul Music. It’s good for the soul...” The new CD really takes Soul Music back to a time when it was important to make good soul music and while the songs are original, they harken back to the heyday of Soul Music. The track “Have a Good Time, is on par with today’s R&B stars like Anthony Hamilton, Eric Benet and R. Kelly. There’s something for everyone on the new soul classic but a standout will be the soulful “Tired of Being Grown,” contemplating days growing up opposed to the troubles of being grown. There’s a duet with soul man, Tre Williams of the Revelations, called “I Gotta Have It,” reminiscent of the Bobby Womack sound. Vick Allen stretches the boundaries of soul music with the popping, “True To Me” which blows a mean sax with a hot piano and driving pop-soul rhythm. “Crazy For You” is definitely a song men and women will relate to if they have experienced being taken by the opposite sex. Vick, includes his 2012 hit “Woman On the Side” because it became so popular well after the release of the highly acclaimed and chart topping 2009 album, “Truth Be Told.” “Party All Our Blues Away” is a fun southern soul party track in the Vick Allen style. Vick belts out the soulful ballad “My Baby’s Phone, perhaps the sleeper hit of the new album. This CD is a standout on its own merit, including the danceable "99.999. ”
Vick Allen has enjoyed success and dominated the Southern Soul market and with this new album he is making strides to conquer the mainstream soul market to help bring back good soul music and bridge the gap with the southern soul blues market. All of Vick’s CD’s have yielded number 1 and number 2 singles, on the soul and blues charts and Soul Music will do even more.
