ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Carnatic music is the name given to the classical music of South India. Concerts are usually performed by a small ensemble of musicians, consisting of a principal performer (usually a vocalist), a melodic accompanist (usually on violin), one or more rhythmic accompanists (usually on mridangam, often assisted by a secondary percussionist). The tambura is the drone instrument. This audio set contains detailed lessons covering verses 1-15 of Andal's Tiruppavai, a set of immortal poems composed in the 8th century AD. Lessons are taught by acclaimed Carnatic vocalist, Vidya Subramanian. Explanations in English help draw listener attention to various highlights of the verses and ragas (melodies). This product will be an interesting and truly enriching experience to new and experienced listeners alike.

Vidya Subramanian is a Carnatic vocalist and teacher.
