ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Decidedly non-commercial, Suicide is hardcore dancehall. Pounding drum and bass driven beats frame the rebel voices of dancehalls hot stars and undiscovered talents.

The gravely vocals of deejay Mega Banton may be familiar from his 1994 crossover hit, Sound Boy Killing. Jamaican producer Dean Mundy, pairs the toaster with the edgy vocals of fresh singer/songwriter Patchy on the assertive, Crying Time.

Deejay Lexxus proclaims boldly his Thug Life status on a raw and realistic track tempered by the smooth hooks of Mr. Fresh and O’Neil Shines.

Dubbed Jamaica’s “rude boy band” by Rolling Stone, T.O.K. mix four part harmonies, Craig T’s textural rapping, Bay-C’s deep rhymes and searing vocals from Alex and Flexx to define Freaked Out.

Two tracks deviate slightly from the albums gritty approach and deserve special mention. Tanto Metro and Devonte, well know for their catchy love songs, Everyone Falls in Love and Give It To Her, drop their signature deejay/singer combo on Ready for Love. Giving Praises by as yet undiscovered Beeno Ranks passionately illustrates there is more to ghetto living than tragedy.

Delly Ranks Vexx and Buss, Zumjay’s Tell Me, Kip Rich’s Why, Showki Ru’s Certain Gal, Benzly Hype’s This Stick and the rhythm track instrumental round out this 11 cut album.

Suicide, the first release by the West Indian based, Vigilanti Records, was recorded exclusively in Jamaica and makes a great addition to a true aficionado’s collection.

Mundy on the path to success
The CD, which is distributed by Mundy's own label Vigilanti Records, is now available on itunes, accessible to millions of persons across the world. The riddim features the voices of artistes such as TOK, Delly Ranx, among others. According to Mundy, the CD was originally to be distributed via the Internet site www.cdbaby.com before reaching an even larger and worthier site such as itunes. "It's a good means of music distribution, reaching places I wouldn't normally reach and hear my music, " he said.

"Ipod is taking over the music industry and persons will be able to access my album on it. There are not a lot of reggae or dancehall music on itunes, we haven't bomb, rushed it as yet. Although there has been a lot of Sean Pauls and Shaggys. This is something our industry should contemplate getting into in a big way. I don't think we should wait till it's out the door," Mundy said.

Interestingly, while the 'Suicide' riddim has been released on an international level, locally the riddim has not hit the dancehall.

"The sound of the riddim is different, its a fusion of dancehall, classical and hip hop. The album took shape through writing, where every artiste on the album should say something totally different from each other. So it should appeal to everyone. Most of my work has been done for an International market. Locally people are more familiar with me as a songwriter than a producer," he said.

Landing his riddim on itunes, Jamaican producer and songwriter Dean Mundy is set for success.

Though fairly unknown on a local level, Mundy is making strides internationally with his first independent 'riddim' album, Suicide.

With music available literally at your fingertips, itunes is one of the latest forms of digital music players, where persons can access thousands of songs via the Internet.

Miss Mention, Dainty Crew

The Suicide is a solid Dancehall rhythm
This one rhythm CD featuring the Suicide rhythm kicked off with the most popular quartet in the Dancehall right now, TOK. The Suicide is a solid Dancehall rhythm and it works well with a number of the high profile artists who are representing in the Dancehall right now. I tried out the new dance to the rhythm and the Log On can be achieved to the Suicide, so this is a good sign.
