Album Notes
Vikki J. Myers is a Chicago-based actress and vocalist who performs one-woman shows for women's conferences, leads musical worship through Kingdom Impact Theatre, and is a voiceover artist. As a singer and songwriter Vikki mixes well-known jazz and R&B standards with original and traditional Gospel songs to present a fresh lyrical focus on Jesus. Here are some of Vikki's observations about her first seasonal album:
"So many times a Christmas CD is about getting us in the mood for the environment that’s known as 'Christmas.' We wanted to develop an album that focuses the celebration on the object of Christmas which is Jesus Christ.

"There’s a distinction between the spiritual atmosphere and the standard seasonal atmosphere that goes beyond the social and emotional mood of Christmas. I think that encapsulates this project.

"We want to concentrate on the cross-connection of victory and celebration. Mixing songs like 'Silent Night' with 'Isn’t He?' expands the concept of the wonder of Christ being born just for that night to Him being born for all times. Even 'The Christmas Song' with a gospel interpretation of why Jesus came extends beyond the traditional Christmas message.

"We wanted to create something so that when the season’s over the music doesn’t have to go back into a drawer. That’s a reason we have included the scriptures -- to underscore the eternal concept Christmas has rather than the ‘mono-seasonal’ concept we’ve created it to be.

"Christmas music means nothing unless we’ve elevated the Word on which it stands. For people who hear Christmas music yet never crack open a Bible, unless you contextualize it, they never realize that what they’re hearing is the Word of God. That’s what inspires me when I sing a song in the first place…knowing it’s the Word of God. And if I don’t remember that, I’m just another Christmas season singer with a CD of predictable tracks.

"One of the tracks, 'The Spoken Word,' is an underscored reading of the Gospel of Luke account the heavenly choir on the night of Jesus’ birth. The lyrics of 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel,' 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing' and 'Mary’s Song: Unplugged' all are primarily Scripture.

"I pray there’s something about the arrangements that’s sowing Scripture and helping people take a pause and reflect on the real object of the season. Even if they take umbrage, that’s all right, too.

"Embracing Christ’s birth beyond December led me to revisit previously released 'What Child Is This?' and 'Mary’s Song,' an original selection included on my first CD. This 'Unplugged' version has a live vibe for two reasons – to capture what Mary may have felt in the moment of making her covenant with God, and as a reminder of the covenant each of us should take when entering the Lord’s service today.

"Serving the Lord today is also what led my collaborator and musical partner Garlan E. Garner, who produced this disc, to create the instrumental tune 'Just Wonderful.' The song began as a music exercise that morphed into an expression of praise illustrating the uniqueness of Garlan’s gift: his fingers have been set aside to worship the Lord only, and we love to sing His praises any time of year. We hope this helps you do the same."
