Album Notes
Punto De Vista (ViewPoint), Frank’s sophomore effort, is a worthy successor to his first CD, South Beach.

With Punto De Vista (ViewPoint), Frank blends traditional latin rhythms and forms with contemporary technology. Continuing his pioneer concept of virtual latin jazz – latin jazz that is completely in the digital realm – Frank incorporates modern inventive stylings and electronica and strikes a balance between the established and the unconventional.

Like South Beach, Punto De Vista (ViewPoint) is an instrumental eclectic mix of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian percussion; but Punto De Vista (ViewPoint) is more - more songs, more instrumentation, more varied rhythms, more latin jazz. Consisting of seven original compositions, two latin standards, and one latin adaptation of a classical waltz, Punto De Vista (ViewPoint) is an atypical latin jazz release.

Frank Villafañe represents a new breed of Latin Jazz artist - one who believes good quality Latin Jazz, can be produced independently. In South Beach, Frank introduced virtual latin jazz; in Punto De Vista (ViewPoint), he raises the bar, and perfects it. One listen, and you'll be a believer as well.

Leaves you wanting more
Punto De Vista features wonderful writing, performing and recording by New Jersey-based pianist/composer Frank Villafane. Anyone who is a fan of Rebeca Mauleon will LOVE this CD! The ten tracks contain infectious rhythms, slashing piano, ingenious changes with just enough montuno, and it grooves throughout. The mix is hot, with percussion that has to get you out of your chair as you listen.

One of the strengths of this CD is the educational value of the detailed liner notes. Each song is thoroughly documented, so someone wanting to hear particular Latin rhythms can learn how these styles sound when combined in Frank’s ingenious way. The arranging is another strength of the CD, with the inclusion of just enough instruments to keep the listener’s interest, and long-form tunes that push into new territory just when you think they might return to the original melody statement. The lovely artwork puts a final balancing touch on this formidable one-person project that balances technology and superb musicianship to leave you wanting more.

My Point of View
Frank Villlafane newest project, “Punto De Vista/View Point” was an incredible experience on many different levels. First of all, the compositional aspects are first class. Melodically, harmonically, rhythmically, and spiritually, you will be moved. Then, after Frank has crafted a masterful tune, he then writes swinging arrangements on every song. He explores many different genres within the Latin realm from cha cha to Afro Brazilian Bossas to Puerto Rican Bomba just to name a few. After he has done all of this work, Frank then performs every instrument on every tune. The realistic sounds of the piano, bass, percussion, etc... will blow your mind!! From an educational standpoint, read the liner notes Frank provides so you can understand the composers ideas and “View Point.” You will not be disappointed with this CD.

Percussionist Perspective
The advent of the home recording studio has given many Clive Davis dreams. More often than not, these productions resemble the reject auditions from American Idol. Every once in a while, however, you run across a project that will capture your attention. This is certainly the case with Frank Villafañe's self-recorded CD, Punto De Vista (ViewPoint). The tune titles alone are enough to give one reason to pause and consider their meaning. I was impressed by the diversity in composition, something not easy to achieve when offering as many tunes as does this rendering. When one realizes that the entire CD - that is, ALL the instruments - is(are) played by Mr. Villafañe, one gets an even deeper appreciation for what he has accomplished here. The recording is clean and crisp…I would highly recommend this CD.

A Real Musical Treat!
Frank Villafañe is a very talented pianist; his latest effort, Punto De Vista (ViewPoint), shows just how talented he is. Displaying a unique knowledge of each instrument used on the CD (including congas, bongos, timbal, bass and vibes), his use of these various instruments in their traditional rhythms is perfect. Every tune has his unique stamp of originality and creativity. Congratulations on a job VERY well done! For listeners and dancers, this CD is a delight!
