Album Notes
Songwriter / lead guitarist Vinny Marcone's Antietam Sunrise is a hard driving Rock concept album that features Tony Stevens on bass guitar, an original founding member of the classic rock band Fog Hat and original bass player in America with Savoy Brown.
Vinny's work is a powerful mix of all original vintage style Hard Rock music and Country style Ballads based on the common soldiers hardships and struggles during the American Civil War. Through his music and lyrics Vincent "Vinny Marcone" Ekdahl drives home the human side of the troubles, realities, and horrors that faced the ordinary foot soldier who only wanted to do right by his country's cause, not realizing until too late the insurmountable life and death struggle he was to face as he went to war against his fellow countrymen. From the title track "Antietam Sunrise" to the bar room ballad of "Sadie The Goat" you will go from the horror of being in the Battle of Antietam to a look into the real life Lady River Pirate Sadie Farell and her 1860s adventures with violinist Michelle Jones putting you right aboard Sadie's ship!. The powerfully deep message delivered in "Deep River Soul" gets driven home by vocalist Billy Livesay, bassist Tony Stevens, lead guitarist Vinny Marcone, and Drummer Jeff Gilliard with a vintage style acid rock, soulful blues sound, reminiscent of the late 60s powerhouse rock bands. In the ominous track 6, "Dressed in Black", vocalist Billy Livesay brings home the sad truth that as the Generals sit perched high and away from the battle the Grim Reaper feeds himself on the endless slaughter of humanity unfolding on the field. Vinny dedicates track 7 "The Special Man" in memory of his lifelong high school friend and Civil War Military Historian Mark Bernstein who tragically passed away in 2006 at age 48. Vocalist Brenda "Lady B" Fernandez tells the the story of the Special Man who brings knowledge and enlightenment to all who came to know him.
Violinist Michelle Jones sets the mood in "Ride The Elephant", a memory that goes as far back as pre Civl war with the traveling Circus's of the times. The Album ends with "Dear Mary Beth". Bass player Tony Stevens sings this duet with "Lady B" Fernandez. It is a solemn reminder of the many correspondences between soldier and sweetheart during wartime in which most ended with tragedy. Vincent "Vinny Marcone" Ekdahl is originally from Teaneck N.J. and now resides in Merritt Island Florida on the beautiful Space Coast.
