Album Notes
Virginia Luque plays classical and flamenco music in a Spanish romantic style, combining extraordinary technical virtuosity with beautiful tone and musicianship.

A native of Cadiz, Spain, Ms. Luque began playing the guitar when she was four, started formal training when she was six, and gave her first concert at the age of seven. After hearing her play, the legendary Spanish guitarist, Andres Segovia, invited Ms. Luque to study privately with him. She received her Master's degree in Spain and at Segovia's suggestion came to America where she also received a Master's degree at the Juilliard School in New York City.

Ms. Luque has recently recorded Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, has been awarded First Prize at several international competitions, including the "Manuel de Falla" International Competition for Classical Guitar in Granada, Spain, and has received the Lincoln Center Scholarship, among other awards.

Concerto performances have included the Concierto de Aranjuez with the New York Virtuosi Orchestra, the Riverside Symphony, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Izmir Symphony Orchestra and Antalya Symphony Orchestra in Turkey, the North West Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Symphony Orchestra, and premiered her own concerto with the Alexandria Symphony.

Recitals have included Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House, the Frick Collection in New York City, and other concert halls throughout the United States. Ms. Luque has toured internationally in Germany, Spain, Turkey, and South Korea. Ms. Luque was also invited by Christopher Parkening to do a special guest recital at the Christopher Parkening International Master Class at Montana State University.

Ms Luque plays it her way and I'm grateful. I'm a guitar player can't begin to imagine how she get that tone of hers. Looks like I'll have to just listen. :-)

This is a wonderfully musical and technically spectacular display of artistry. Virginia and Pepe must share at least a little of the same musical DNA.

Virginia Luque, Por El Mundo
Virginia Luque is my favorite guitarist, bar none. I have seen her perform twice when I lived in St. Louis, and she took my breath away with the combination of technical virtuosity, musical intelligence, and sheer passion she exhibits in her music. I deeply regret not dining with her one evening when I was invited to but had other obligations--perhaps we will meet someday so I can thank her in person for the joy I feel when I hear her play. I was a little disappointed that this CD has some tracks duplicated from her previous self-published effort, but I await future endeavors. Brava, bella!

Virginia's playing is amazing! Her playing can capture a tear on an eyelash, as well as, stir the sea into a tempest with the passion and strength of her artistry.

perfect blend
With superior technical mastery and a timbre Fernando Sor would be jealous of, Virginia has a perfect blend of musical mastery and heartfelt emotion. The only thing better than this CD is to see her live!

Takes my breath away
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away. Virginia's playing does that to me.

con mucha admiracion
I wish to congratulate you on your new release. Your playing is marvelous. As I hear "Rumores de la Caleta", it reminds of the beautiful landscapes and the warm natured people of our dear mother nation, España. While I listened with tears on my eyes, it brought me many wonderful memories of my early years and travels. Thank you for making this wonderful album. I believe that you are one of the most wonderful virtuosos of the guitar that the world has ever heard and seen. I wish you the best of this world and look forward to your next album.

Con mucha admiracion,

Jorge Ramirez

A true gem with excellent sound quality
Just received this CD a couple of days ago and I am truly impressed. I own many classical guitar CDs but this one is a true gem. The studio sound quality is superb.
Virginia captures the essence of each of the melodies she performs. I've heard many versions of classics such as Tarrega's "Capricho Arabe" and "Gran Jota", but never with such rich contrast and outstanding dexterity. Unlike many others, you can really tell these pieces have been performed straight from the heart. Her renditions of “Misionera” and Chopin’s “Waltz op. 64 N2” are simply breath taking; in some parts, you wouldn’t believe there is only one guitar playing. Not to mention her very own two compositions which just show you what a great talent she has and it’s just amazing to receive a share of it through this album. I am very pleased with this purchase.
If your CD player supports CD-TEXT you’ll be able to see the song titles on the player’s display as they play!! I’ve found not many CDs come with this nice treat.
