ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Welcome to Viva, the Sandnes Cultureschool's choir

Viva was founded as "Sandnes Music School's Girls Choir" in 1968, and was opened for boys in 1997.
The name was then changed to"Viva, Sandnes Kulturskolekor", Viva for short.

Throughout the years, Viva has earned them a quality mark, and has had the pleasure of performing with a number of musical capacities.
When performing with stage shows there has been cooperation with professionals from the Norwegian Opera, Oslo and Rogaland Theater, Stavanger, and professional musicians with a span from the jazz group Bayou Blue to the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra,

Viva was invited to participate in the annual New Year’s Concert by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corp., NRK on the 1. January 2008 as a direct consequence of the choir's high quality level. Selected students from various Norwegian Culture Schools are invited to this concert, and Viva is the first choir to sing in the concert ever.

Over the past years, Viva has won 1st prices in all the competitions that have been attended, mostly competing with choirs for adults!
(Well, we came # 3 in the last competition in Bergen, september 2009, but what an experience in meeting the choirs from four other nations during the Grieg International Choir Festival!))

Our leading text for working with the children is what Pablo Casals once said:

"Each second we live is a new and special moment,
a never returning moment.
We should tell every child:
"Do you know what you are?
You are a miracle!
You are wonderful!
In the whole wide world there is no-one like you!""

Viva is an open choir, meaning anyone can join the choir.

The school-year 2011-2012 the coir consists of 45 singers, of whom four are boy sopranos.
