Album Notes
We formed Voice in London in 2006 with the simple wish of wanting to sing together again. We revisited music we had loved while members of the Oxford Girls’ Choir, and shared new repertoire with each other, just to see how it worked and where it might take us. From there we have built an eclectic repertoire of a cappella music that spans centuries and continents, from the medieval music of Hildegard of Bingen, to new music that we have commissioned.

Since forming Voice, we have performed throughout the UK, from prestigious venues to intimate stages in unusual places. We have toured the USA several times and over the years have been privileged to collaborate with many fantastic people: composers, poets, artists, musicians, dancers, and spoken word artists.

Patterns of Love is the second album from Voice. The songs on this recording were originally part of our touring programme of the same title, in which we presented the theme of love in many guises; from devotional love, to heartache and separation, humour, and romantic love. In 2014, we were awarded funding from Arts Council England which made it possible to commission four new pieces for Patterns of Love by British composers Helen Chadwick, Emily Levy, Stevie Wishart, and Ayanna Witter-Johnson. With donations from our supporters we were also able to commission a fifth piece by composer Marcus Davidson. We had worked with these inspiring composers before, either on other commissions or as performers, and so this was a special opportunity not only to work with them again, but also to bring their diverse styles together in one programme, and now in this album.

Voice's debut album, Musical Harmony (2013) was described as ‘Fresh and really rather beautiful’ – Andrew McGregor, BBC Radio 3 Summer CD Review.

“Brilliant trio...sensational singers” Sara Mohr-Pietsch, BBC Radio 3 The Choir
