Album Notes
Chad Wackerman Biography

A phenomenally skillful jazz and rock drummer, Chad's professional career began in 1978 with the Bill Watrous band. Since then he has amassed a remarkable body of work including a seven year association with Frank Zappa, with whom he toured the USA and Europe and recorded 26 albums including the London Symphony recordings. He has also recorded 6 albums and toured with guitar legend Allan Holdsworth, played on the 'One Voice' album and video with Barbra Streisand, and recorded albums and toured with artists as diverse as Steve Vai, Andy Summers, Men At Work,Ed Mann, Albert Lee, Colin Hay, Dweezil Zappa and Tom Grant. Chad has also toured with James Taylor, John Patitucci, Joe Sample, Banned From Utopia and The World Drummers Ensemble (Bill Bruford, Luis Conte, Dou Dou Ndiaye Rose and Chad Wackerman) and most recently toured the USA with another ex Zappa drummer-Terry Bozzio.

As a band leader and composer Chad has four critically acclaimed CDs titled 'Forty Reasons' ,' The View', 'Scream' and his latest release 'Legs Eleven' . Chad has written music for the television show 'The Dennis Miller Show', as well as composing music for Allan Holdsworth's 'Secrets' , 'Wardenclyffe Tower' and 'Sixteen Men of Tain' CDs.

Chad's drumming combines the power and conviction of rock with the sensitivity and finesse of jazz. His playing is remarkably free of predictable patterns and licks, relying instead on invention and interplay with the musicians around him.

good mixture of fusion music with unusual melodies
This is written after a few listens, so its an early impression. The drumming is great, always inventive, yet tasteful, the tunes are thoughtful and melodic, and all play very well. The only gripe is a little more variety in tempos, the title track is amazing, but most the other tracks are slow, just another up tempo number maybe?

Great music - wish it was mastered more conservatively
I have been a fan of Allan Holdsworth for a while and came across this CD remembering that Chad has worked with Allan a lot. I gave it a listen and I like it very much. My only nit pick is that some transients were clipped / dynamic range were lost in the mastering process.

Fun fusion ride!
First off, Wackerman is one excellent drummer and superb fusion
composer. With that out of the way, the next question is, "So how's this
CD stack up in comparison with Wackerman's other solid fusion
releases?" I can comfortably say, Scream does a great job of
measuring up to all those prior efforts overall and continues Wackerman's
reputation for great fusion. So, go get your copy right now. And now the
other jive . . .

I am a seriously dedicated fusion guitar fan and when you follow
the greats, you will find Wackerman drumming on many a super jazz
fusion release. And how's the axe-work on Scream? Oh yeah, it is
superb. James Muller is tight, fluid, innovative, and by the way -- shhh . . .
he sounds like that Holdsworth guy. Best many of those great melody,
solo, and unison lines in Scream feature excellent vibes by Daryl
Pratt. It all works just right.

Oddly enough, this Wackerman release sounds a great deal like
vibe-guru, Ed Mann, is back doing that Get Up thing with a new
guitarist. Grab that hard-to-find CMP label release and you too will hear
what I mean. I loved Mann's vibe-rich grooves and fusiony Zappa-esque
tunes on that 80's release so . . . Wackerman has resurrected a great
memory and breathed new life into it. Guess what? Wackerman played
drums on Mann's release. And furthermore, both Mann and Wackerman
gigged with the ever-evolving Zappa troupe. Ever notice how great
musicians all jammed with either Frank Zappa or Miles Davis in their
early careers?

Well, everyone does a fine job of pulling off quality fusion and I
am glad to have this one in my collection. Recommended.

Please see my review for Chad on Legs Eleven. These are excellent high energy powerful fusion cd's. I purchased all 4 from CD Baby when I found them here. I have over 2000 cd's been collecting music since age 14. Like all styles but play drums. These are a drimmers delight. So much movement, odd times, pulsing, pounding. Do yourself a favor, I do not get paid to write this review. It is good music,Period
