Album Notes
Wailing Loons create Music for Good, driven by a mission of writing and performing music that reflects and transforms society. The group sprouted from the rich, up-north musical soil of Minneapolis in late 2011, when Dan Wilder's solo songwriter open mic nights took new flight with kindred spirit Emilie Hitch entering the scene. Wailing Loons were hatched and immediately began playing live shows at area open mics and private venues with a rotating cast of collaborators.

The Loons are now six strong, with Dan on guitar and vocals, Emilie on vocals, Casey Pavek on banjo and vocals, Nick Neylon on upright bass, Erin Manlove on viola, and Matthew Marshall on drums.

2015 was a huge year: in partnership with Eat for Equity and Oxfam America, the band played #MusicForGood on the Solar Powered Stage for three of the four nights of Bonnaroo. The Loons also headlined the Lily Springs Festival, immersed in community with two sets at MBOTMA Festival, and raised money for local YMCA Camps at the inaugural Prairie Burn Festival in Wisconsin.

Wailing Loons debut mini-LP "Fire in the Cold" was recorded at the Old Blackberry Way by Neil Weir in the fall of 2015. Mastered by Bruce Templeton at Magneto Mastering. Album artwork and layout by Erin Sayer. Album photography by Stephen Stephens.

"Wailing Loons entertained and bantered with the audience in between danceable folk rock that dealt with topics of northern lights, bank robberies, and moonshine. They often quipped about their pride of being Minnesota’s smallest representation at Bonnaroo..."
