Album Notes
"Special thanks to my longtime friend and collaborator Stephen Murphy. Together with the help of family, friends and fans, we have created this project - a rediscovery of and reconnection to, then songs that have inspired and influenced us both deeply." Sloan Wainwright

Contemporary folk-pop singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright – youngest sister to folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, and the aunt to the next generation of Wainwright artists, Rufus, Martha and Lucy – has just released 'Rediscovery'.

This new work from the artist is a collection of hand picked cover tunes, and can be described as a musical rediscovery of, and reconnection to, ten songs that have inspired and influenced music fans through the years. Stand out tracks include the fan-favorite 'Ring of Fire', a sweetly pretty version of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Mercy Me/The Ecology’, and a stark, soulful interpretation of Neil Young’s ‘After The Gold Rush’.

Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles: pop, folk, jazz and blues held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto with the end result a unique and soulful hybrid.

"...Sloan Wanwright, whose regal voice could fell a redwood….” The Boston Globe
" of those singers whose performance is a force of nature." Sing Out Magazine
“… earth mother voice that she pours into unexpectedly sensitive blends of folk, jazz, blues and funk."
The New York Times

Awesome. Sloan Wainwright is simply the best performer I've ever seen. Her unusual voice is mesmerizing. I've had the pleasure of seeing her live, twice, in a very small venue... It was heavenly. My husband and I have all of her CD's, and this latest one is as special as all the rest. Neil Young and Bob Dylan should request that she record ALL of their songs!

Sloan Wainwright-Rediscovery
I only discovered Sloan Wainwright approx 2-3 weeks ago thru the Joan Baez listserv - so I decided to check her out and listened to the tracks and she won me over and I ordered the CD immediately. I Sloan's voice and this CD is amazing, my favourite track is definitely "Ring of Fire" - fantastic arrangement of the song - really awesome - I love each and every song - great album, and I highly recommend it.

Knights in Armor
Sloan\'s new covers set has gotten a lot of play at my house. After Bob Dylan\'s \"Meet Me in the Morning\" spent a number of weeks in my personal top ten, her version of Neil Young\'s \"After the Gold Rush\" is lodged @ #1 in my personal top ten song rotation. I listened to that track five times in a row last night. Sloan has a way of getting to the heart of a lyric and completely adopting it, \"I heard about the knights in armor saying something about a queen.\" I love her take on George Harrison\'s \"All Things Must Pass\" & John Lennon\'s \"Love.\" Some covers albums leave you wanting to go back to the originals. Sloan polishes them so you hear them in a new way. This is essential listening!

her absolute best yet!!!

That voice!
That voice is amazing! I just love her unique voice. It is deep but soft and I just love it. It is a lot different than those you hear now-a-days and that is why I love it! "All things must pass" is my fave! It is beautiful and well written and not to mention, VERY well sung!

I am so glad i discovered her music!

I love Sloan Wainwright's voice! Its so much different than other singers' voices. Her voice has a certain tone to it, that really brings the best out of the song and out of her, as well. I am so glad that I discovered her music! "Ring of Fire" is my favorite. I always liked the song, even when Johnny Cash sang it, but when Sloan Wainwright sings it, it gives it a modern ring to it! I love it!
