"Rules" draws influences from Thoreau and Sartre. It’s also a focused rumination on the rules everyone is taught early in life that later become laughably unnecessary, encouraging open-mindedness through progress and self-evaluation.

Album Notes
Seattle, Washington trio WaterPenny have been moving at light speed since their inception this past November. Wrestling complex themes together into a forthcoming six-song EP about progress, WaterPenny boasts tremendous collaborations wherein members often tag-team lyrics, assigning their own meanings as needed. Alcoholism and altruism. Shadows. An attempted military coup in Thailand, seen firsthand.

The band’s biggest concern now, however, is progress. Moving forward. Breaking the rules and becoming better. Says member Wes Speight: “I believe that you give your music to an audience of people and it’s theirs from then on. It’s not gonna be ours anymore. That’s the only thing that really makes sense to us.”
