Album Notes
This session is notable as probably the best session I ever had with Alfie. He only ever told the story of Ass Full Of Glass twice in his life. The first time was in his basement, and I tried for a long time to get him to tell it again so I could record it, but he never would. Then the day Seth joined us, Alfie was so animated that I just eased him into it and he went for it ! It's also a good companion piece to Old Smokie Sweater. You'll hear how reluctant Seth was to even think about singing in public, and yet a year later he was magnificent in the Old Smokie Sweater concert. Many of the songs we were trying for the very first time, so you'll hear them warts and all, but Seth sang beautifully ... he was an inspiration to play music with and my vocals improved significantly from my time with him.
