ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
William Cepeda Live at Montreaux Jazz Festival

--------
With this first live production William Cepeda AfroRican Jazz brings us a truly splendid musical feast. Over the last 12 years, William Cepeda has broadened the counsciousness of Puerto Rican music worldwide with his AfroRican Jazz, an original concept he created in 1993. This recording captures the spirit of the group on an international tour, revealing the committment and pride to represent the best of Puerto Rican music and culture.

Presenting highly sophisticated jazz arrangements, combined with ryhtms and musical styles of Puerto Rico, Cepeda surely gave birth to a new shade of jazz. As critic Blaise Deley (24 heures) wrote of this performance at the Montreaux Jazz Fest: “William Cepeda AfroRican Jazz swings between Africa and America; and the cultural mix resulting seems to come as much from Fela Kuti, than Mario Bauzá or the Vienna Art Orquestra”.

Trombonist, composer and arranger, William Cepeda is part of a new generation of musicians who have not only played with the most renowned musicians and mastered the skills as a jazz artist, and, but combines them with the traditional music of their homeland, creating a new and challenging repertoire. This recording presents original compositions which celebrate the richness and creative potential of Puerto Rican traditional music.

Music lovers will be delighted with the spontaneity and exciting feeling of a live performance, where musical ideas are expressed with great freedom and intensity.

Enjoy the vitality and energy these exceptional musicians share on stage!
