Album Notes
Shad Weathersby has been writing and performing original songs for over 30 years. He grew up in New Orleans and was infused with the great rhythms of the town. His style, though, is more of storytelling, of observation. And he lets the listener see through his eyes.
"To Behold The Light" is a unique and personal pathway in song that traces the life of Jesus Christ. In this new album, Shad's songs instantly transport our modern sensibilities back to the land and the times of ancient Judea, to experience firsthand the events and feelings surrounding the life of the man who became a beacon of love to this world.
This project received great support from the music ministry of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mandeville, Louisiana. The title song, "To Behold the Light", expresses the deep and pervasive human need to reach out to a power higher than ourselves. The album then focuses on essential moments of the life of Jesus, from the Annunciation, his birth, his ministry, the washing of the Disciple's feet, the agony in the garden, the Crucifixion, the descending of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples, through St. Paul's conversion. The album then concludes with the songs "Hear our Prayer based on the Beatitudes, and "Fall Like Rain", a song of healing, and of gratitude to our Savior.
All in all, the immediacy and fresh perspective on these familiar themes has a truly transporting effect on the listener. Simplicity and purity of vision makes "To Behold The Light" an experience that can be enjoyed over and over again in any setting: a Sunday afternoon, in the hectic bustle of the work-a-day world, while settling in for the night... comfort and peace in a moment, and escape from the often hard edges of our modern world.
