ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Wei-Chen is a respected marimba performer, and chamber, contemporary, and orchestral musician. He currently serves as a percussionist of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, a board committee member of Taiwan Percussion Association, and a member of Keyboard Committee of Percussive Arts Society. Wei-Chen is based in Shanghai and Los Angeles.

This album collects works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Jascha Heifetz/ Manuel Ponce, Leo Brouwer, Thomas Oboe Lee, Francisco Tárrega, and Yu-Hsien Teng/ Ahim Tan. Except Preludios by Thomas Oboe Lee, Wei-Chen transcribed all the other works for marimba solo or duo. Playing transcribed works on marimba gives both he original music and the instrument a multiple dimension of sounds.

ESTRELLITA, a Mexican serenade, means My Little Stars in Spanish. The album mainly features Brazilian, Cuban, Spanish, and Mexican music. Wei-Chen also recorded a folk tune of Taiwan, where he is originally from. This recording will give you a different perspective of marimba sound.

Wei-Chen uses and endorses Marimba One marimbas, built and designed by Ron Samuels.
Recorded and mixed by Joel Edinberg @ Q Division Studio, Somerville, Massachusetts, USA
