Erhu Virtuoso!
This cd is nothing short of extraordinary! Wei Xiao Dong plays exquisitely, as does her Chinese orchestra. I'm normally not a huge classical fan, but this music is so engrossing and I hear something new with every listen, I'm quickly becoming one. For those who are not familiar with the erhu, it is a 2-stringed instrument, similar to the violin. But to me the erhu has much more emotion and feeling - then again maybe it's the beautiful, young lady who plays it. Regardless, I was very satisfied with this purchase and I'm sure anyone else would be too!

Authentic Chinese Yet Universally Evocative Music
The sound of the ehru epitomizes classical Chinese music and Wei Xiao Dong makes the instrument sing for all hearts. Five stars!

Masterfully played erhu
I first discovered Wei Xiao Dong on myspace by chance.I listened to the sample songs available on her site. I was so taken by her playing, I ordered the Erhu Solo CD. I am new to Chinese traditional music, but if you listen to classical music you will appreciate this CD. The selection of songs is very good, giving us the opportunity to listen to Ms. Wei skilfully play beautiful melodies in very expressive, sensitive and at times playful ways and with great agility. The accompanying musicians and orchestra give a very good performance supporting Ms. Wei. I highly recommend this CD.

Stunning erhu, great compositions
I'm fairly new to Chinese music, owning only a handful from ARC and other small labels. I came across Wei Xiao Dong on MySpace, heard a few of the tracks there, and was impressed enough to pick up this disc here at CDBaby. This disc is absolutely stunning--beautful, skillful playing, and the compositions are amazing. I want to say that this stuff is less traditional than some other chinese music I've heard, but I might be wrong about that. There's something that sounds very fresh and modern about them, yet remains distinctly chinese. I think that if you're into classical music, you would appreciate this disc more than, say, your average guzheng or qin disc. The erhu sounds similar enough to the western violin to make the transition an easy one, and the orchestra is fantastic. Listen to the clips. It's worth it.

Wei Xiao Dong is one of the best erhu players I have listened too
CD is fantastic. The longer pieces are simply amazing and riveting. I learn erhu and I have close to 100 CDs of this instrument by many different artists. Xiao Dong's playing and rendering of some of the best standards of the erhu repertoire are among the best I ever heard ! I am looking forward to her future CDs and will strongly recommend this one to my friends and anyone interested by fine Chinese music and the sound and magic of the erhu !
