Album Notes
Welsh Rabbit emerged from the blossoming northwest pop scene in the late 90's, forged out of an undeniable commitment to catchiness and a tendency towards stuck-in-your-head guitar jangle. The band split a year after the release of the quartets first recording, entitled "West 11th Love Letter". After a year lay-off, two of the founding members, Nick Levine and Kyle Chilla reformed the band with Florida to Oregon transplant, Jordan Selman. Within a year the new line-up had completed the group's sophmore "debut", aptly titled "Forward Motion", and recaptured the hearts of northwest concert-goers. The band now sits comfortably at the two-year mark as a power trio, gunning for a third and anticipating what's around the corner.

Zippity, nimble pop that veers between gentle and robotic, like if the Poster Children were any good. "Mai Tai" was neither gentle nor robotic but a nice, tense mid-tempo song (sorta like Versus). The label logo looks a lot like the Elephant 6 one and the band is from S.E. Portland so you know they're good!

South of Mainstream

indie music with lo-fi appeal along with a glam rock induced edge
Nick Levine and Kyle Chilla share vocal duties and while I'm not sure which is which, their very different vocal styles mix to create an odd but interesting vocal signature. One voice is more emo-driven, slightly off key and emotional. The other is deeper, more monotonous and at times almost robotic in its delivery.....
Musically this is an intriguing mixture of indie/lo-fi guitar and bass sound, with moments of heavier guitar jangle, sprinkled with the mastery of a live drummer, Jordan Selman, and carefully crafted keyed electronic elements provided by various backing artists. Mix them all together and you get a listen full of interesting noise, plenty of heavy atmosphere and memorable hooks and vocal melodies....
