Album Notes
Wendy Lynn Martin was raised in Southern California until she was about 10 and then she became a northern California Girl. She considers herself a “closet singer”. She confides that she lacked the confidence and courage to play her music in public, even in front of her family. She represents the “True Musician” in regards to still being pretty shy about playing and getting nervous before a performance.
Wendy confides: “My husband Rod is my best friend and biggest fan and is a HUGE part of my healing path through music. He is a musician himself and that is one of many common threads between us. We have played gigs together up and down the west coast of California.
“I call myself a harmony “Freak”. I just love hearing close, delicate harmonies. Even as a young child, I could always hear all the harmonies and instruments in a band, even when I was too young to know what those instruments were. I am still that way. I pay close attention to every note in a song. All of it plays a part when you’re trying to convey a message through music. I’ve always felt that music can break through the barriers in life that nothing else can.”
Wendy Lynn Martin is a folksy, country rock, singer/song writer. Along the lines of the Eagles, and Linda Ronstadt. She came from a family who loved music. She remembers her Grandparents singing Spanish songs together in close harmonies, and her parents always had music playing. Her father played guitar and taught her a few chords when she was just 4 years old. “I Grew up listening to music all the time. Everything from Bob Dylan to The Beach Boys, Everly Bros and the Beatles and even Mariachi music! In High school my best friend and I formed a duo and we would play a bit. Back then my mother pitched my music.”

The inspiration for "My Son": This song was written when my oldest step-son was getting ready to leave for college. When a child of yours leaves your home to begin his/her own life, you just hope that you taught them everything they will need to know to be happy. This song is about that. I sat down with my guitar and began playing and my husband chimed in with the words. It took me a year to be able to sing this song and not cry.
Eyes of Children: This was written right after the Columbine school shooting. The realization that a child’s pain and suffering led to that event was shocking and overwhelming. The song was written to bring awareness to how desperate & hopeless feelings can be with youth.
With Sandy Hook and now the safety and security of an intimate community in South Florida being shattered, it is easy to relate and understand the heart and soul of Wendy Lynn Martin. She represents an artist that is telling her audience; that we need to “feel” and “realize” and “get the word out” that we are all connected.
Roses in December: This song was written for my father in law, who struggled with the frailty of old age late in his life. Although age does take its toll, the song comes from a place of understanding that even though the physical strength of youth has passed, the memories of our life can be held onto, and when the cold days of winter are upon you, you look back at the memories, like “Roses in December”
These songs and the musical artistry and journey of this singer/songwriter is so totally amazing. It provides a new meaning of awesome, warmth, and REALNESS. You will want to listen to her over and over again!
