"Flute Talk Magazine" Review - December 2013
"....enchanting album...(Rolfe's) playing is impeccable, poetic, imaginative, and colorful....DeWolf is equally impressive and serves as a sensitive collaborator....This will be an album you will listen to repeatedly."

From the Romantic lyricism of Clara Schumann, to the Brazilian harmonies and rhythms of Francisca Aquino, I-Yun Chung, and Chiquinha Gonzaga, this recording highlights the talents of women who write great music. Beth Denisch's "Three Women" will make you want to dance, and Gretchen Hewitt's witty takeoff, "A la Prokofiev", will make you want to smile. With Hilary Tann's "Windhover" you'll soar above the clouds. Amy Cheney Beach and Rebecca Clarke transport us to the world of women passionately forging a new creative path. Kazuyo Kuriya's "Green Tree House" brings us to the Japanese countryside of Fukushima, and Cecile Chaminade's "Pastorale Enfantine" evokes the gentle ambiance of her niece's nursery.

The luminous acoustics of Boston's WGBH Fraser Studio showcase the sounds of Wendy Rolfe's antique (1876) cocuswood flute, her silver and gold flute, and her wooden piccolo. They highlight Deborah DeWolf Emery's playing on the studio's matchless 9-foot Hamburg Steinway piano. Brazilian guest artists Eduardo Mercuri, guitar, and "Paulista" percussionists Julio César Santos and Anne Nêgah Silva add Latin spice to the mix. All the tracks were recorded by one of the best engineers in the business, Antonio Oliart.

A MUST FOR ANY COLLECTION
I loved this. It was a surprise find for me and I was taken on a gentle odyssey from charm, to romance, to dancing with joy - via the delightfully quirky. The arrangements are faultless, allowing the flute and the piano both to share the stage and yet still have their virtuoso moments. Highly recommended.
