Album Notes
The West Side Winders began in early spring of 2002 under the name The Sidewinders. Guitarist/vocalist Dan Peters took influences ranging from Elvis & Johnny Cash to Brian Setzer & Stevie Ray Vaughan and worked towards developing a group that would be both musically challenging and highly entertaining. After working through a few lineup and stylistic changes, he found the perfect niche as a surfabilly power trio.
Their music mixes rockabilly, surf, jump-blues, honky-tonk, jazz and western swing into a high-octane blend that rocks a little harder than your typical roots oriented group. This sound was perfected on their first CD release from 2003 - The Sidewinders "Come and Get It" (available at and continues with their latest release - "Snaken Not Stirred."
Plus, for fans of great guitar, both albums really put the spotlight on Dan's virtuoso six-string skills.
All three members of The West Side Winders are journeyman musicians who have recorded; performed and toured the world with many Chicago based acts.
--- Dan Peters - guitar, lead vocals, songwriter - Dan has put his guitar skills to work for several high profile regional acts including: The Big Swing, Professor John, Susie Dobbs and Way Out West, The Tom Carey Band and Tommy Vitale amongst others. Career highlights include: A top-ten finalist in Guitar Player's Guitar Superstar 2008, 2nd runner-up in the 2007 North American Rock Guitar Competition, performing with Jules Holland of Squeeze for a BBC television special on Chicago blues, playing with The Vanguard Aces on Cupid (a former prime-time TV show for ABC starring Jeremy Piven) and winning Chicago's Hottest Guitarist Contest in 1994 (sponsored by Budweiser and Washburn Guitars)and recorded work on popular video golf game "Golden Tee."
--- Derek Brand - bass - Derek is best known as the long time bassist of respected Chicago based artist Nicholas Tremulis who had two critically aclaimed albums on Island Records in the early 90's. He also performs regularly with singer/violinist Heather Horton.
--- Greg Marsh - drums - Now a resident of Hawaii, Greg is legendary on the Chicago scene having performed and recorded with The Way Moves, Dick Holiday and The Bamboo Gang, The Cathy Richardson Band and Ed Zeppelin amongst many others. The drum chair is currently held by the supremely talented Kyle Olson. Kyle will definitely be on our next album.

All I can say is WOW!!
I just listened to "Snaken not Stirred" and all I can say is WOW! If T-Bone Walker, Jimmy Bryant, Dick Dale, Danny Gatton, Brian Setzer, Colin James and the Hellacasters were all in the studio together, it MIGHT sound as good as this! Dan, you ARE the man! Great work by Derek and Greg, as well! KUDOS, boys!!!

Saw the band, enjoyed the show, picked up the CD.
Saw the West Side Winders at Abbey Pub recently. I really enjoyed the blues sound mixed in with a variety of other sounds. Listen to track "500 Miles" for a nice quality sample. My son loves Elvis and sang along with the CD on first listen ("Little Sister" and "It's All Right").

The guitar playing was Excellent and supported by a tight rhythm section. The music was diverse and I preferred the SRVish sound which was accented with some Eric Johnson'ish scale running.

I'll be back for a show with my little rockers (sons)!

Going Snakey for Rockabilly
Chicago rockabilly guitar god, Dan Peters, the voice behind the Sidewinders , has a brand new band which he uses to tap into his inner Elvis on his new CD Snaken Not Stirred, while giving the music a modern twist.
The new band, bassist Derek Brand and drummer Greg Marsh, cook like the old band, more than capably backing Peters’ guitar and voice. He shines on two Elvis cuts— That’s Alright and Little Sister, but he really comes into his own on the hilarious original Keep It In The Family.
For your inner greaser, check out the scorcher Slick Back Cadillac Daddy and Your Love is Evil. He ends another really wild rockabilly ride with the instrumental Scary Harry. His playing is top notch throughout and his voice is as solid as ever. Just imagine what he could do if he held the same rhythm section for more than one album.

These guys are carrying the flag for traditional Rockabilly
Very high energy music with standout guitar and drum work. A hard rockin' version of "That's all right" opens the record followed by a rockin' mix of instrumentals and "surfabilly" (among other things) with catchy hooks and hard drivin' beats. An excellent record that quickly got into my "regular rotation". Traditional Rockabilly that's been updated (which is not easy to do), in a world full of folks who almost get it right these guys are the real deal.

Wow! I was blown away by it. I think that CD BABY said it all...Brian Setzer, Johnny Cash, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Elvis & more all rolled into one!

A truly flawless performance
You haven't heard rockabilly until you have heard The West Side Winders! They offer rockabilly a modern twist while still keeping true to the legends that came before them. The West Side Winders offer a truly flawless performance that you will not soon forget. I know I won't.

My new traveling tunes CD
Hey, I made the mistake of playing the CD in the car on the drive up to the Wisconsin Dells. NOW I can't get the kids to stop singing SLICK BLACK CADILLAC DADDY. Not that that's a bad thing (unless ya ask the wife)! Another keeper guys congrats!!!!!!!
