ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“This some of the most truthful/soulful music I think I’ve ever heard.”
Corey Herman

Adjectives from the same review include “dark, powerful, graceful, introspective, beautiful, expressive, honest and heartfelt.”

Where can you find music matching all of these descriptions?

The songs on the new album Tradition range from driving rockers like the title track and Lead Me On, to the sweet ballads of Come Home To Me and Left Behind to the intricate finger-picking of Good Night and Leota to the front porch stomps of Spoken Word and Tides. There is not a single sleeper on the whole album. Each song is crafted and shines and stands alone as an affirmative musical testament.

In the past year a growing audience has surfaced for the eclectic mix of rock-folk-blues-soul music of Wes Tucker and his newly formed band The Skillets in the Washington D.C. area. With intricate guitar work from Bryan Washam and the driving backbeats of David Rutkowski, the band continues to fill small DC venues with powerful demonstrations of musicianship and raw emotion. With the release of their first record “Tradition” the band is receiving great reviews and the audience continues to grow. With songs ranging from delicate harmony laced ballads like Left Behind to the head nodding-beat of the title track it is clear that these gentlemen thrive on diversity. They shift from honky-tonk stomps to Latin infused instrumentals, to soulful crooning and back again in the space of a setlist. Bryan Washam is a student of blues, jazz, and funk on guitar and also shares duties on the bass. Dave Rutkowski has been schooled in Latin and Afro-Cuban beats and easily handles the responsibilities of straight rocking as well. Wes attributes his song-writing and vocal styles to growing up in Southern full Gospel churches and being introduced to the music of Bob Marley, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix at a very young age and later discovering song-writers like Ben Harper and Ani DiFranco. If the influences sound scattered, what unites these musicians is a love of good music as well as good taste. They appreciate the opportunity to make music together and they listen to each other. This is apparent from the first notes you’ll hear at a show and rings clear on their debut release “Tradition.”

PUT THIS DISC ON AND LET IT PLAY !!! It will set you straight!
Wes Tucker's hip debut album Traditions has groove and introspection. You don't have to skip any songs as it is tight in it's entirety. Set to brilliant writing on universal themes, his unique sound strums your soul. It's smoothness tinged with excitement! And the dude can sing!
Thankfully missing is the self-rightousness that many artists of depth can't escape. It's very hip but not overt. It's an interesting sound which can pump you up or simmer you down, depending on what you are seeking, and your mood. I run to it, rest to it, get my groove on with it, you know what i'm saying... Then I come back for some more. It's got all the hooks in the songs, but without the cheese. Redemption, song 4, is my fav, although i really have loved them all since i originally connected with Traditions. Check it out/// We have to give Tucker a reason to put out a follow-up album this hot!

Wes finds the perfect mix of roots and innovation!
Wes and the gang have done it and are still currently doing it! Tradition is packed full of emotion. It will have you thinking, dancing, and smiling. This album is good for the soul. From the rhythm and the guitar licks, to Wes’ deep thoughts on life, love and religion, I enjoy this music because it’s a classic/new sound, it’s got an underground vibe, and these guys are good. Wes finds the perfect mix of roots and innovation!

An inspired and inspiring collection of songs
From the first song to the last, TRADITION keeps me coming back for another listen. It's got everything a listener could ask for--memorable melodic and lyrical hooks, honesty, inspiration, truth, beauty and some really great riffs (not to mention Wes Tucker's incredibly warm and soulful voice). I can't say enough good things about this CD....

Thoughtful Songwriting with a Blues Rock Backbone
A personal favorite of mine that is great for anything from roadtrips to house parties to laying on the beach. Wes' lyrics are poetic and thoughtful, backed by warm, bluesy guitar lines and commanding drumming. Don't miss tracks include the title track "Tradition", a bluesy rocker, and "Left Behind", a fluid song with a chorus you'll find yourself singing a long with.

The acoustic guitar on this record has one of the best tones I have heard on record. Then you see this was recorded at home. Not to geek out about sounds, but that gives you an idea of the attention to detail they have given this record. Much love went into this performance. Mellow, yet poignant… the songs speak of a world in which ideals can only stand when uplifted.

Awesome CD, and these guys are hot!
Definitely a CD worth buying and a band worth seeing live! This CD has a tight sound, kind of funk/soul/rock/mellow. Hard to explain but great to listen to -- you'll just have to check it out to understand what I mean. My favorite song is "Left Behind"; their voices harmonize together really well and the melody behind them is great. I recommend this CD to anyone who appreciates great songwriting and an awesome new sound.
