ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Wheat Pool was formed in winter of 2005 by four men seeking a voice for their rural obsessions and fierce penchant for dark county-rock. The result was a new cooperative, whose influences draw from fellow Edmontonians Old Reliable, Winnipeg’s The Weakerthans, Steve Earle, Neil Young, Blue Rodeo, early Wilco and Whiskeytown. The songs themselves stemmed from two brothers, who pen dark, driving country-rock songs that deal with timeless themes of death and good old-fashioned longing. These are songs that are best appreciated in your car, on a dirt road, late at night, chasing trains in the dark.

The Wheat Pool spent seven years travelling their country, playing every stop from Victoria to Halifax; bars, barns, concert halls and museums - their songs and stories found their way into many rooms audiences. The band recorded two critically acclaimed full length albums and one EP, endearing themselves to fans around the world, before closing the chapter in 2012 to follow individual pursuits.

"An addictive mix of sincere, heartbreaking melodies and rock enthusiasm..." Exclaim! Magazine

“The album makes art out of pain without adding to it. It celebrates loss and memories like only good music can.“ – SEE Magazine

“It’s been said a good writer writes what he knows best. If that’s the case, Canadian alt-country rockers The Wheat Pool undoubtedly know their country like the back of their hand. “ – The Uniter

“Hauntario is a restless, hurting record full of the kind of cocaine jags and morning after regrets that put a person in a frame of mind to hit the road, fleeing with the last few vestiges of dignity and pride intact. Hauntario is a powerful record full of great fully realized songs, and to my mind yearning and hurting haven’t sounded this epic or strangely appealing in ages.” – No Depression

Brotherly Love
Yes, its true. The Angus brothers are both talented and easy on the eyes. Get this album and then get their new album "Hauntario." Music that is easy to stay connected to.
