ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
An historic musical adventure created deep inside a little known cavern in Madison Wisconsin by some of the City's best known mad men. In this recording Ingenious Whittler explorers New York in the 1920's through it's former mayor Al Smith. A rare and incredibly unique recording.

CD Baby

Tom Waits lovers eat your heart out. Mixing distortion, carnival quirk, acid folk, blues and creepy, dark Americana, stirring in all kinds of other rare ingredients (a dash of NIN for your aggressive needs) for a thrillingly wacky brew, this is just the aural abuse you're looking for. Ahh, the music of mad men!

Amazing! One of the best albums I own (out of a collection of 5,000 +).
Great variety. Musicianship. Vocals. No complaints at all. I keep checking back to see if I can find more Ingenious Whittler, no luck so far. I hope there is more on the way for the sake of us all.

5 hidden gems and alot of filler
I primarily purchased this CD for track 9, Sleep Standing Up. Which is probably the best song I've heard all year. Hoping, but not expecting, to be surprised with perhaps a very brilliant unknown album as well. This is not quite the case. There are 5 good songs on this 22 track album. Track 4, Sinner Believe, a noisy yet catchy little rump. track 9. track 13, Goering's Yellow Noses, with a lovely waitsian melody. Track 21, Stitches, has an instant appeal, a very cool guitar riff, reminds me of an Os Mutantes song. Track 22, which isnt even listed, is one of the albums best songs, and is as rare as Black Hole off Beck's Mellow Gold. Undeniably this is a lo-fi album, alot of the high gain is so painfully exaggerated, very little bass is found. grainy and over-used samples of old recordings and speeches are saturated throughout. vocals are megaphoned and distorted with lo bit filters on practically everything. this is hardly circus derived type music. its more jazz induced than anything. however if you like being the bottom scavanger of hidden gems throughout the unknown indie music scene, then dont let this album get away. but dont expect to be buying any kind of masterpiece.

This is the greatest musical STUFFFFFF i've heard in years....it's refreshingl
It's so different, that's what makes it great....the productions are outlandish and off beat....that renders a flavor so different and far beyond the mundane and boring....these guys got it goin' on....yeah!!!!

Ingeniously Mad!
Wow!!!....this thing has strange depth....I love it! Obviously, this record is the work of mad people who spend ten months of the year trapped in some dark cave going over the records of long-forgotten historic events.... All the elements for great recordings are here... Carnival sounds & allusions to Zepplin, Tom Waits and much, much more! The thing is as strange and wonderful as it is hilariously mad! A GREAT, unique album!

Funky and Fun. Nice work.
A fun and funky blend of improvisation, music and cacophony. I was glad to have a small part in this, but I liked the end result so well I bought it for my friends and family. Really liked the trumpet in the last track.
