ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Who's Not Forgotten, FDR's Tribute to teh Who is a collection of twenty-one songs recorded by a "who's who" of the best power-pop/indie-rock bands from the New Jersey/Philadelphia area, including the Bigger Lovers, Cordalene, The Photon Band and Grandfabric. FDR is also proud to bring fans a live recording from indie-rock pioneers Guided By Voices, whose blazing rendition of "Baba O'Riley" is a compilation high point. Pat Dinizio of Smithereens fame also turns in a brilliant live recording of "Behind Blue Eyes."

The FDR roster is fully represented on the tribute with tracks from the Dipsomaniacs, Blank Pages, Bastards of Melody, Taggart and J Horndog. The Dipsomaniacs also appear as the backing band for Philly guitar legend-turned-WYSP-DJ, Tommy Conwell, whose rockin' version of "Long Live Rock" is featured in the heart of the compilation. The CD also features several artists who call Jam Records, who are co-releasing the album, home, including the Lolas, Chris Richards, Jeremy and the Glowfriends.

Saddened but inspired by the untimely passing of bassist John Entwistle, FDR made a point of featuring some of the lesser-known tracks written by Entwistle, including "Boris the Spider" and "Heaven and Hell." Die-hard fans will also be pleased to hear some Who deep cuts such as the often overlooked classics "So Sad About Us," "Glow Girl," "Pictures of Lily" and "The Real Me."

All proceeds from the sale of Who's Not Forgotten will benefit HEAR, a hearing loss prevention organization created in 1989 with a sizable donation from Pete Townshend. For more info on this valuable resource please visit www.hearnet.com

Better than I expected
As tribute albums go, I really got a kick out of this one. Frankly, I bought it just for GBV's take on "Baba O' Riley" which wasn't quite as good as I might've hoped. Still, the collection as a whole is quite satisfying with a lot of interesting takes on the songs. A worthy purchase, but boo-hiss for the lack of liner notes. As I am totally new to a lot of these bands, it would be nice to have some data in the package.

Best Who tribute cd I have heard almost all is essential.
Buy the cd if you enjoy The Who at all. It is truly great from start to finish. Plus a good cause. I think I will buy more in the future for gifts. Thanks again. And very prompt delivery.

Who Tribute?
As a LONG time Who fanatic I've rarely been so repulsed. The artists do not seem to have a clue about the attitude of the Who, they just sound like so many copy bands.

If you want to listen to a real tribute, check out the Sex Pistol's version of Substitute.

Garage band guts for Who classics
The Who, especially in their legendary live performances, always had a raw and gutsy garage band appeal -- spontaneous, sexy, rough around the edges and a power that was equally evident in their ballads and their anthems. Who's Not Forgotten captures that feeling perfectly. All of the cuts are very good, some are great, and 'Long Live Rock' will have you wanting to throw a long neck through the mirror behind the bar.

A Very Strong Lineup
FDR's Tribute to the Who contains a very strong lineup of modern-day power pop artists, and a wide-ranging approach that sees songs from the Who's entire career covered. The Bigger Lovers "Glow Girl," the Photon Band's and Guided by Voices' impressive live take of "Baba O'Riley" are the standout tracks. Recommended.
