Album Notes
women in docs

To consider a label like “perhaps Australia's hardest working artists” might be giving too much credit to some acts, but for women in docs it’s a label that fits like a glove. As the girls release their second album, “Red Wine And Postcards”, (beautifully produced by Darren Middleton, guitarist Powderfinger) their achievement and continued dedication to their craft has never been more marked.

For eight years, Roz Pappalardo and Chanel Lucas have worked their way up through the music industry ranks from playing in their bedrooms in far North Queensland, Australia, then moving to the big smoke of Brisbane and capturing the hearts of a dedicated national fan base. But they didn't stop there. The girls grabbed their passports and headed overseas to win over audiences at festivals throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

women in docs have accrued an impressive array of career benchmarks. They’ve played major festivals and music industry events throughout the world. They enjoy ongoing airplay throughout Australia. They have sold over 20,000 CDs independently. Recent releases have spent time in the Top 20 of the Australian Independent Records Charts. They have claimed ‘best self – managed act’ from Music Manager’s Forum. And they regularly play to packed houses, touching the lives of people from a broad cross-section of ages and cultural backgrounds.

Their debut album, “Under a Different Sky” (released in Australia in 2002 - also available on CD BABY), has just been released and successfully toured in Canada and USA (June / July 2006). The album is enjoying Top 20 status in the Americana Root Charts and has been added to multiple radio stations across America. Added to standing ovations and repeat encores at California World Fest and Vancouver Islands Folk Fest, the women are starting to own overseas as well.

It’s hard not to love women in docs. If they haven't already caught you in their web of fans, their new album, “Red Wine & Postcards”, will grab you with delightfully honest and down to earth humour, dressed in stealthily addictive melodies. And comfortable shoes.

“Red Wine & Postcards” is a solid addition to women in docs music heritage… their earthy vibe and strong voices deserve attention.” rolling stone ***

“[Red Wine & Postcards gives] an uplifting vibe and a genuine sense of realism and humour that normally sparks their live show.” time off ****

“[Red Wine & Postcards has an] airily inviting feel that's easy to enter, but once inside, there are layers of other emotions to add weight to it. There are a dozen such songs here, and I raise my glass to them.” rave

“undoubtedly their finest work [Red Wine & Postcards] with crisp folk pop tunes like Lucas’s Annandale and Pappalardo’s extraordinary Breathe.” noel mengel, courier mail

Great! My husband & I saw them at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA and enjoyed their show so I ordered this CD. Love that the songs are original and they were very entertaining.
