Amusing Ourselves to Death

by Winston Apple

Within a basic “pop-rock” framework, there is a strong reggae influence, as well as traces of gospel and folk music. The songs are fueled by fiercely intelligent lyrics, strong grooves, smooth harmonies, and powerful arrangements.

Album Notes
All of the songs on "Amusing Ourselves To Death" were written by Winston Apple between February and August of 2011. The first eight songs on “Amusing Ourselves To Death” makes it clear that even if this album was being released into an apolitical environment, it would still be a great album with thought-provoking lyrics and dance-inducing grooves.
The final eight tracks, while exhibiting clear connections to the first half of the album, are more overtly political and inter-connected. Every great revolution is fueled, in part, by songs that inspire and inform. If the American Revolution 2.0 is to be the joyous, peaceful, democratic uprising that it should be, the songs on the second half of “Amusing Ourselves To Death” will prove to be timely additions to the soundtrack of the movement.
With no "filler" tracks and the inclusion of a 12-panel, poster fold lyric sheet, the songs come wrapped in a very attractive physical package that make owning a physical copy of the album a desirable alternative for those not wedded to individual song downloads. Settle into a comfy chair with the lyric sheet in hand and listen to this album from start to finish. You will be amused, but it won't kill you.
