Album Notes
All of the songs on this album deal with love, and with love gone wrong.

Most of the songs on the first half of the album are bluesy, piano-based pop-rock, with a few interesting detours. The title track is the most rock-oriented of the songs. “That’s When Your Heart Gets Broken” has a distinctive ragtime feel with horns. “You Didn’t Want My Love” is a funky blues-rock number, also featuring a horn section. “Any Way The Wind Blows” has the most obvious blues, roots-rock feel.

On the second half of the album Winston’s affection for the Southern California Country Rock popularized in the seventies by groups like The Eagles shines through. “Love Is All Around You,” in particular, has an obvious Eagles influence.

Shimmering harmonies by Monique Danielle, Farley Compton, and Gharett Schaberg are featured on many of the songs. The guitar work by Farley and Lowell Premer is also very impressive.

Quite a number of good songs here...
Mr. Apple has been in, out and around the music business for 30 years or so, and he knows a thing or two about songwriting, arranging, recording and singing. All that knowledge shows up on this new, generous 15-song disc. The backing back is just plain great, Winston's voice is varied and always competent, and the lyrics sometimes rise to a very high level. There are "filled heart" verses, broken-heart verses, confused heart verses. I found it impossible to choose a clear favorite, but it seemed to me the disc got stronger as the songs went by, with the last four or five sticking in my head more than the first few. I have heard at least five CD's by Mr. Apple all told, and this one is the finest.
