Album Notes
"Momento" is the fifth album from Wolgemut and features music from historical as well as traditional sources. Medieval Cantigas, historical dances and Swedish folk music are presented using the unique musical style that fans of Wolgemut have come to know and love.

Wolgemut (vol-ga-moot): an ancient germanic word which simply means “to be in a good mood”. It is also the name of a very unique musical minstrel's troupe which believes that the goal of every performance is to leave the audience in a good mood!

The Wolgemut sound is unique and is best described as "Historic World Music" Wolgemut takes historical and traditional melodies and adds a generous amount of new world verve. The end result is as close as you can get to Renaissance Rock!

This is a great disc. The music is crisp, very true to tradition but also has great energy. The playing is superb, and the instrumentation is perfect for the tunes.

BAGPIPES: Not just from Scotland anymore!
Today's over-produced, lack-luster, work-a-day Top 40 and hip-hop just 't cutting it, are they? You say you need somehting different to slip in your CD player at the end of a long day's work? I would encourae you to choose something that takes you back to a much simpler time...way back to the age of monks and cloisters, of kights in shining armor and the ever-lingering threat of the Bubonic plague....
Despite the Middle Ages' dreary outlook on life, the music on "Momento" by Swedish band Wolgemut is anything but depressing. Take the hearty, German sing-along "Manner Mit Barten", recorded live. The audience shouts out requests for "Freebird" at the end and the band decides to go into Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven"....this is no ordinary rennaisance revival group. The album abounds with traditional tunes and one original ("Polar Bear") played with ATTITUDE and plenty o' bagpipes: whether it's a fast dance tune or a reverent lament to the Virgin Mary (Check out CSM 139, 166, and 29), this music rocks and does much to encourage indpendent early music artists everywhere. Other noteworthy tracks include "An Dro", "Sackpipslat", and the "Farmer's Polska". With a name like "Wolgemut", it pretty much says it all...this is a great album. Good times, man

Still a favorite!!
I first fell in love with Wolgemut's music at the Maryland Renaissance fair and bought all the CDs I could get my hands on. Momento remains one of my favorites of the Wolgemut CD collections and Wolgemut has a special place on my iPod. Sackpipslat still remains my best-loved song on the CD.
