releases groundbreaking debut CD

What is that sound? A violin? A sax? Infectious freaking handclaps? Yes, yes, yes, but what’s more – it is the mellifluous sound of indie rock’s rebirth! Philadelphia quartet The World Blanket is gently bowing the genre awake with their seamless blend of strings, straws and vocal struts on their debut CD “aMaybe” (No Applause Records, 2006).

Earnest and instantly memorable, The World Blanket moonlights as a decadent orchestra before jolting their audience with a cold water blast of rock. Mike’s resonant vocals – a cross between a young Prince and Wheatus’ Brendan B. – urge the audience to believe, while strings and percussion drive a dichotomy of urgency and peace.

Even an indie rock scholar could not predict The World Blanket’s musical turn. With their menagerie of instruments and fervid love of music, they give a voice to the unheard. Renew the faith in indie rock!

The World Blanket is:
Grant – drums, piano, shaker, triangle, handclaps, board
Jon – violin
Mark – bass, trumpet, saxophone, handclaps
Mike – vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboard, handclaps, pitch pipe
with special guests Ami – vocals; Andrew – vocals; J.C. – cello, vocals

come on, believe

aMaybe ,the best yet
I really love this album, I love the varity of sounds that they give us. With the string, and horn sections. It's a pretty album with and edge. My favorite!:-)

unique and interesting, yet it still rocks pretty good
I'm really impressed with the production of this album. The arrangements are rich and interesting, well-mixed, not too dense. The violin drives the band: the riffs are powerful. The rhythm section is solid, with some cool drum fills and meandering bass lines. I like the horns and various other instruments and sounds, and I can understand the lyrics. I also like the transitions: it is an ALBUM, not just a collection of songs.

I have to say, I was blown away by the vocals. I kept thinking they sound like a young Prince, and from me, there is no higher compliment.

The overall sound is different from anything I've ever heard. I don't know what to compare it to. It's really unique and interesting, yet it still rocks pretty good.

Good work.

Gritty yet Smooth
The psuedo whiny yet gritty vocals of lead singer Mike Pomranz, in combination with the with the irish influenced violin, come together to create an album which you can listen to while driving with your windows down or during a deep smoke-filled conversation.

America's most original album of 2006
In a year that has stood out for its deplorable lack of musical originality it is a joy to listen to a debut album that has thrown off the coil of that has come before it. aMaybe is a devastatingly creative effort that reeks of musical skill and ingenuity. Mike Pomoranz's (sp?) lyrics flow in a manner more akin to Shakespeare than his contemporaries, the music has been beautifully composed with the use of instruments many bands today could neither picture nor pronounce. Accompanied with the excellent production this stands out to me as one of the great debut albums of, not just this but, any year. Congratulations and thank you to all involved.

Inovative on all levels
the world blanket is the perfect blend of creativity, lyricism, and charisma. The talent cannot be denied, not even by those who do not claim alternative rock as their favorite genre. And I should know; I'm a hip-hop DJ! I play their stuff all the time on my show and haven't heard any complaints yet even from the most hardcore of hip-hop fan. In fact, to the contrary, they often call up and thank me for putting them on to some hot music that they would not have come across otherwise.
Buy this album NOW!!! And if you see anyone with a bootleg, slap them!!! (just kidding ... but not really;^)
