Album Notes
This music is produced by one person on a laptop with the modern tools of music production. Its music that tends toward the quiet end of electronica: atmosphere with beats.
It's a bit unique in its emphasis on chordal progression and pad movement, often entirely lacking any lead line. In the more successful tunes a melody is implied more than defined.
I began this enterprise because I was no longer able to find music that engaged and excited me the way music did at one time. I had enough tools and experience to move ahead with this and naturally learned a great deal more in the doing.

How to discover music without borders
I am always searching for music that is not "within borders" but following an own way. And here is one of those. Compare, for example, Willow Gate, the driving force behind it, with the Fallen Snow song. Two completely different moods, and both unique. Fallen snow is amongst the 20 favourite songs of mine of all times...I heard it and could never forget it. Those are songs of a haunting beauty.

What if Autechre had pursued a serious side project with Steely Dan?
Have you ever wondered, to yourself, what would have happened if Autechre had pursued a serious side project with Steely Dan? Probably not. I'm guessing there are very few people who have considered the possibility of mining the nether territory between the rich harmonic vocabulary and clarity of jazz with the pulsing symmetry of the mellower end of electronica, but this CD by Wrench unearths a vein of pure platinum in this unlikely pairing. There are no buzzsaw basslines, there are no thumping kick drums, and there are no exhortations to dance dance dance in this electronica. Instead, there are shimmering electric pianos, dense layering of glassy harmonies, and percolating rhythmic beds that overall produce a feel akin to the bossa nova of Joao Gilberto or the cool jazz of Chet Baker. This album ranges through a series of moods that go from calm contemplation to nervous introspection, coaxing the listener into a space where being sophisticated and modern fit quite well together.

A "Must Have" CD
Few composers have the ability to combine modern computer-based music making techniques with functional harmony and provide a consistent signature sound throughout that crosses the barriers of many genres of electronic music. From IDM to ambient soundscapes, Wrench never fails to deliver with his unique personal stamp. "Action, Consequential Action" is the latest collection of songs with this signature sound of Wrench. Mostly down-tempo in nature, this collection from Wrench is filled with his unique thought provoking music that is sure to leave the listener in the mood Wrench provides long after the first listen. It is a CD that one simply must have.
