Erhu Aficianado

Best Erhu release since her last one!
This appears to be Xiao Dong's followup to her 2004 classical release, "Erhu Solo". Her and pianist Yuki Mack are amazing and pull off a jaw-dropping performance. The selections themselves, vary from western pieces that will be recognizable to most people, to classic Chinese compositions that may not be as common to us westerners, but still flow nicely together. Hardcore classical enthusiasts will eat this up for sure, while it may take the casual listener a little longer to absorb everything going on.
The musicianship is stellar, with Xiao Dong doing things with the erhu that few can do with such prowess. Steinway Roster pianist Yuki Mack is impeccable and the 2 have a chemistry that is rare to find in this day and age. Liner notes state the recording was made at Orchestra Hall in Detroit and the sound is as breathtaking as the performances. Hats off to the sound engineer and person(s) who mixed this.
If you liked her first classical cd, chances are you will like this one too. This would also be a great cd for anyone looking for an introduction to the erhu. Five Stars all the way!!
PS. Take advantage and see XD and Yuki perform live whenever possible - you will not be disappointed.
