Album Notes
xSive (excessive)

Phil Barrile is an accomplished musician, who started playing guitar at the age of eight. A graduate of DePaul School of Music, Phil studied with numerous professionals and composers in both modern and classic styles to achieve his master status.

Phil has always performed music as a profession.
Years ago he formed the Eden Orchestra, an eleven piece ensemble that has been performing at thousands of private, public and corporate events.

Phil always had a passion for "song smithing".
"Composing new music is always a great surprise. Teaming up with Michael and Wally has had some interesting results.
Our collaboration is a blend of styles I truly enjoy.

Wally has been singing since the age of five.
He would sing to recordings that his eight older
siblings were listening to.
His early exposure to Motown as well as Classic Rock gave him
both the smooth and rash textures found in his vocal style.

At age fourteen Wally recorded his first vocal tracks on several songs
written by his brother, singer/songwriter, Vince Swiatly. Shortly after
he began composing his very own music.

At age twenty four Wally was introduced to Phil Barrile while studying
voice with Jillann Gabrielle, Phil's wife.
Wally was a singer /composer in the recording group "Stay" at the
This was the beginning of a long relationship that has now led to the
band xSive.

At age 29, Wally's professional singing career took off when Phil
contracted him
to sing for The Eden Orchestra, a world class special event music ensemble.
Performing for large audiences spaning coast to coast has made him confident
as a vocalist, song writer and performer.

His passion while singing is very evident when you see him perform.
His ability to communicate with his voice sends chills down your spine.
You can feel what he is feeling through each and every lyric.
Michael's career as a musician began at age 10 when he played his first note on a piano and strummed his first chord on the guitar.

At that same early age, he started work as a road technician for the Eden Orchestra, one of Chicago's premier orchestras. As his talent developed he quickly advanced to be the orchestra's live sound engineer.

Using his on the job experience as a point of departure, he pursued music business studies at Columbia College in Chicago. Following two years at Columbia, Michael moved to LA to study Studio Engineering. There he studied with some of the best studio engineers in the country. Michael has since completed his studies in studio recording from The Musicians Institute in Hollywood,CA.

After graduating from MI, he created his own company. The Michael Barrile Entertainment company designs and operates live sound production for national recording artists as they perform coast to coast.

"Music is my passion. Ill do it for the rest of my life. Its what I do for work and its what I do for fun".

Romantic pop-rock
The Chicago-based group xSive (pronounced excessive) joyfully creates xpanSive (expansive) pop-rock. Virtually every song on the band’s debut 3 Generations of Rock (an album entirely composed and produced by the trio of Phil Barrile, Wally Swiatly, and Michael Barrile) plays like an anthem, with larger than life choruses, tight harmonies, and ripping guitar solos. It’s the kind of rock that’s designed for stadiums and sing-alongs, meant to bridge generational gaps rather than widen them.

The majority of the songs center around romantic entanglements, embracing both the highs and lows associated with matters of the heart. Lead vocalist Swiatly soulfully delivers lyrics that are often sweet without dissolving into a saccharine mess. The amiable opening track “Ride On Chicago” lauds their beloved hometown, recalling good times at Wrigley Field and the local bars, while “Price to Pay” discusses the perils of putting your feelings on the line. (“I don’t know if I’m ever going to come to grips from being in a relationship/I’m tired of falling…” Swiatly laments. )

Things slow down on the blush-worthy “Sunday Morning” which details the pleasures of a long, loving Saturday night and “start[ing] all over on Sunday morning.” Acoustic guitar lends the song a softer, more intimate feel, but still retains the spirited nature of 3 Generations. The only song that doesn’t really work within the context of the record is “All American Native”, a call to arms against the mistreatment of native people and the environment.

Key tracks include “Because of You”, which affirms the value of a positive relationship (“We will open up each other/To a whole new life that’s just begun/…I know it’s all because of you with me”); the tender getting-better-acquainted tale “Again”; the afore-mentioned “Sunday Morning”; and the unabashedly sentimental “I Want to Love You Most” in which xSive proudly declares “I want a love that hurts/I want to say it first”. Even the most jaded among us can appreciate that type of fearless xpreSsion.
