Album Notes
Close To Home is the YAMPA VALLEY BOYS fourth CD. We called it “Close To Home” for several reasons. First, there are several tunes that refer to life and times in our Colorado Mountains: (the title cut) Close to Home, Yampa Valley Curse, and The Way It Was. John’s poetry recitation was written by J. May, a local rancher and cowboy poet. Second, six cuts are originals by Steve Jones including his often requested love song, Next To You. Finally, four of the tracks were recorded at a live concert in Elizabeth, CO with our good friends Brad & Kathy Fitch. Three of the live tracks are songs sung by John Denver, one of Steve’s early singing heroes.

We’ve kept a sample of John’s frailing banjo work with Yellow Rose of Texas/ Cindy, Cindy, and Bunkhouse Orchestra.

The remaining tracks keep the CD “cowboy” with Bob Nolan’s, For A Cowboy Has To Sing, and Steve’s, Stay Cowboy, and Word Weaver. We enlisted our friend Brad Fitch to add a third vocal part for old fashion cowboy harmony.

Finally, unless you have been to a Yampa Valley Boys concert you have never heard Stan Jones’ (Ghost) Riders in the Sky performed the way it is captured on this live track.

So take a listen, and if you like it, there are 3 more CDs where this one came from.

Reviews and Comments:

"Anyone who has ever owned a horse or enjoyed an old-time cowboy movie loves these guys.

They have an easy, down-home cowboy humor that
really connected with our audience."

"I liked it so much I immediately played it again. Your harmonies are great. Your song selection is wonderful, both covers and originals. And your comedic timing is superb!”

Sandy Reay,MUSICIAN, ARTIST AND PROMOTER, Founder of: http://www.acousticbylines.com

"Steve Jones and John Fisher have teamed up again to produce yet another intriguing collection of cowboy/Western songs. Steve's tenor leads are terrific, and John's harmonies, banjo pickin' and mandolin strummin' are superb.
These guys are good. Their harmonies are melodious and tight, and their musicianship is impeccable. They deserve a serious listen."

"The fourth CD from the Yampa Valley Boys, Close to Home, presents a mixed bag of styles and material. Included are some originals that should be picked up by other artists... Also present is a vintage sounding, rustic, acoustic accompaniment with banjo played in the style called "frailing". This is the type of album that is best appreciated when taken en toto, track by track.
