Album Notes
1.Ms. Su’ad What I Am Written and sung by Ms. Su’ad
Produced by Pablo

Ms. Su'ad is the Urban Superwoman. This young woman has been making trails in the Northwest Independent music scene for close to three years now. Ms. Su'ad is a self proclaimed humanist who raps about her perceptions of life, and her personal struggles juggling work, music and her five year old son. She can be seen in the upcoming documentary "Rock N Roll Mamas" a film about mothers in music. Further information about her can be found at

2.Anny Celsi Summer Fling Summer Fling
Words and music by Anny Celsi copyright Ragazza Music (BMI)

Anny Celsi grew up in the shadow of Portland’s freeways, infusing the northwest’s caffeine-rock culture with the girl-pop sounds of Dusty Springfield and Ellie Greenwich. Her teenage years were spent with the acclaimed avant-garde Storefront Theatre, after which she moved to Los Angeles, where she currently lives with her son, Ivan.

3.Lisa and her Kin Hillbilly Betty Copyright 2005 Airstreamusic
Written by Lisa Miller and Ian Miller

Lisa & Her Kin play high energy honky tonk music. The kind of music that makes you want to put on your boots, stomp your feet and hoot & holler. Lisa fronts the band with her brother Ian. She writes, sings and plays guitar for "The Kin" while raising her two sons with her husband Michael. In her spare time she manages a bookstore.

4.Jayda Klingerman On Fire written by M. Levasseur
vocals and guitar: Jayda Klingerman
back-up vocals and guitar: M. Levasseur
Recording b Trent Hays

I've been singing nearly my whole life, but didn't start focusing my energies on guitar and songwriting until around '99. For me, music is an incredible outlet, and I have enjoyed sharing my music in venues ranging from open mic nights in local bars to the Aladdin Theater Stage. Currently, I stick to predominately non-smoking, all-ages venues, as I am the proud mommy of a son who will be a year old in July. Whenever I can, I arrange a babysitter to come along so that he can be present for my performances...I played guitar all-through my pregnancy, even performing up until I was 7 months along, so music is something he is quite familiar with. Up until recently, my music has been strictly solo-acoustic, but I am excited to now be a part of an electronic project called Marzipan is entirely different than anything I've done before

5.The Strangetones Sweet spot Huge, Strange and Strange B.M.I
Recorded at Meteor Sonic Records

The Strange Tones came together about five years ago, after Guitar Julie’s several year stint as front woman for Guitar Julie & the Rumblers. At this time her son Nick was a teenager and the demands of juggling motherhood, day job, and musician became less of an obstacle, and Julie was able to turn more attention to the new band. Along with husband Andy Strange (bass, harmonica, vocals), and drummer J.D. Huge, Julie created the signature Strange Tones sound, combining blues, rockabilly, surf, and swamp music. Known for their explosive playing and crafty songwriting the band (with new addition Suburban Slim on guitar and vocals) won the 2005 Best Contemporary Band Muddy Award (by the Cascade Blues Association).
6.2 Rivers Miracle Worker Copyright 2003 Heather Rogers
Performed and Recorded by Heather Rogers and Chris Alexander

Heather Rogers -- irrepressible vocalist -- and Chris Alexander -- accomplished singer songwriter -- are 2Rivers, a folk-rock and blues duo with just a hint of jazz. Whether it's ballad, blues, or rock 'n' roll, Rogers' powerful, versatile voice and energy enliven Alexander's soulful and intelligent songs. Rogers is passionate about her art yet more so about motherhood: she makes the time to sing while parenting her wonderful two-year-old Dylan.

7.Sado-Nation Fear of Failure M Bondage, D Corboy Portland veteran P

This punk outfit was established in 1978 by Dave Corboy (guitar), who was joined by Mish Bondage (lead vocalist) in 1982.

Bondage relocated to Los Angeles but returned to Portland where she is a
single mom to four children (ages 8 to 20) and a new grandchild.

Dave Corboy played with Los Jackals, an infamous west coast psychobilly band
and other local outfits, until he and Mish reunited in 1998.

Zeitgeist, formed in 2002 in Stuttgart, Germany by Chris Gabriel and Steph Hays, is pure pop fun. Each of their songs has been crafted to reflect a beautiful symmetry and simplicity with fun lyrics. Drummer, Brandy, had a beautiful baby girl named Eleanor Rose in November. Steph and Chris are expecting their first baby in July 2006. Drumtracks for their soon-to-be released singles - "Fireworks" and "Where, when, why, how" - were recorded at Mississippi Studios until 2 am the night before Eleanor was born. Vocal tracks were laid down by 4-months pregnant Steph. They will continue recording and playing as long as possible!

Jackie Weissman

Rock and Roll Mamas follows various rock moms such as Kristin Hersh and Corin Tucker and explores the unique challenges of two seemingly inconsistent passions: being an artist and being a mom. I began making this film just over a year ago, when my own son was three years old, as a vehicle to better understand how to balance my own inner needs with the needs of my child. The film’s thesis, or "mamafesto," is that all moms rock!

Jackie Weissman is an award winning documentary filmmaker and AVID editor living in Portland, Oregon. She received her MFA in film and video production from Columbia College-Chicago. Her first documentary, The Gorilla and the Piker, was featured on WNET, Channel 13 in New York, as a part of its critically acclaimed Reel New York series. She was awarded a residency at Yaddo in 2004 to develop ideas for Rock N Roll Mamas. Jackie has also worked as a lead Avid editor for, adjunct professor at The Art Institute of Portland and Columbia College-Chicago. She is the proud mother to one son, Lyle (5).

Rock N Roll Mamas is produced in partnership with Film Action Oregon.
