Album Notes
Yolanda Alicia has a great love of poetry and storytelling. She's a vocalist who clearly embraces her lyrics. In this album she does this in three languages: Spanish, English and Brazilian Portuguese. Her voice has many colors derived from a mix of influences. She grew up listening to haunting Mexican folksongs, soulful Boleros, passionate Rancheras and rousing Mariachi bands. As a young child she relished the dramatic "new" music called "Broadway Musicals" that her sister brought home from college. Her repetoire covers the spectrum: Classical, Broadway, Jazz Standards, Bossas, Sambas and an amazing collection of songs from all corners of Latin America. She delivers emotionally compelling interpretations with an impressive vocal range. In this debut album she is supported by outstanding San Francisco Bay Area musicians: Argentinian guitarist, composer/arranger Hugo Wainzinger; upright bass player/arranger, Saúl Sierra and pianist Marco Diaz. Carlos Caro is a talented timba style bongocero from Cuba. Native Brazilian, Weber Iago, delivers his creative expertise on Bossa and Samba tunes. Noted Peruvian composer/guitarist, Santiago "Coco" Linares plays on the Afro-Peruvian tune. Michaelle Goerlitz and Pedro Rosales apply their vibrant percussion skills. Magical melodic lines are provided by Jami Sieber's cello and John Worley's flugelhorn. Producer Lichi Fuentes, a native of Chile, has directed these tracks with an extraordinary ear and a passion for the Mexican, Cuban and South American roots they represent.
