Album Notes
Few singers possess the warmth of tone and creative vitality of Yuki Yamaguchi, one of Japanユs rising young vocal stars. Her beautiful sound and heartfelt expression has gained the attention of discerning audiences in both the USA and Japan. In addition to performing at major festivals, Yamaguchi performs in Tokyo at Body And Soul, The Cotton Club, Motion Blue, Alfie, Pit Inn, as well as major jazz clubs in Nagoya, Osaka, and Kobe.

Yuki Yamaguchi has a rich educational background, living in Australia for one year during high school, and graduating from Osaka University (2003). Inspired by the vitality of the jazz she experienced in New York City, she began to sing professionally in 2004. She studied voice with Kimiko Ito, Cathy Segal-Garcia, and Kate McGarry, then joined Tommy Campbell’s Vocal Session Band in 2007 for a tour of the USA (the only Japanese member), and sang at Sweet Basil, Berklee School Of Music, Puppets, and other jazz clubs. In 2008, she joined Hiroaki Mizutaniユs ensemble Phonolite, and sang on his CD Still Crazy (2008), with Sadanori Nakamura (guitar), Akira Sotoyama (drums).

In 2007, Yuki Yamaguchi began singing Brazilian music in Portuguese at Azul (Osaka), with Miami pianist Phillip Strange. This artistic collaboration flowered with the release of Double Rainbow (2008, New Truth Records), a vocal/piano duo CD featuring the music of Jobim, Corea, Valazquez, and Barbosa.

A rare bloom. So glad I tripped over this!
This is such a gentle and heartfelt record, and the musical conversation is something truly special. It's full of space and these songs meander like they have all the time in the world.
Yuki has a divinely soft touch and her voice is gorgeous. Phillip's piano springs off the lyrics and draws pictures.
Thanks for your music!
Yuki, if you read this, I was trying to email you but your address bounced. I'd love to chat. I am a singer living in Australia, I spent three years in Japan. Would love to chat with you...you can drop me a line info@perfectdaymusic.com.au
