ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Zade's Little Shop of Dissimilar Thinking & Tinkering #005 is all about finding some free time for you parents while your kids are learning more about reading, literacy and words. (Shh - don't tell the kids it's educational because to them it just sounds like fun!!) Zade's Little Shop is an hour-long, audio, variety program, containing acted-out stories, original music, special segments, jokes, magic tricks, news segments, games and snappy chatter, --- all designed for kids ages 5-8.

This is the third in an on-going series of programs where "Zade" welcomes kids to his little shop. Each time your kids visit Zade's Little Shop they will enhance their reading skills by listening to stories over and over again. Everyone agrees that reading to kids is one of the best ways to help them be better readers. The problem is that most parents don't have the time or energy to read to their kids as often as they would like. Zade's Little Shop of Dissimilar Thinking & Tinkering provides the reading experience in a fun and exciting way.

Zade's Little Shop does more than just help kids learn to be better readers. Because it's an audio program kids develop better listening skills. The "Imagination Builder" segment helps them re-engage their imagination

The AWTY Players, who act out the stories, visit the shop regularly and share their concerns about being kids today. In addition to enhancing their reading skills, kids will learn to: laugh, think, listen, make noises, laugh, explore options, make decisions based on information gathering, and explore feelings.

Lots of care, time and thought have gone into each Zade's Little Shop program.

v As producers of these shows we are especially concerned with the quality and content of each show. The language, ideas and values are all appropriate for this age group.

v We have learned that these programs stimulate discussions between adults and kids - thus helping to create special time with your kids.

v The main focus is to enhance reading skills by repetition, vocabulary building and learning the sheer enjoyment of reading. You can download a story from each program from our web site at www.zadeslittleshop.com so the kids can read-along. The songs, chatter, jokes, etc. are included as rewards - and to disguise the idea that this program could be "educational".

The stories on #005 are from writers in many parts of the United States.

v The first story is about a father trying to teach his daughter to fish. It is entitled "Bird Watching" by Donna Getzinger. It helps kids learn independence from watching nature and fosters the bonds between fathers and daughters.

v Our second story, "Red-Footed Booby", tells the story of a young booby chick who laments about her physical looks. The story is written by Elizabeth Anne Wilson in a wonderful rhyming manner similar to Dr. Seuss. Elizabeth Anne also reads the part of the Grandma Booby and helps her grandchild learn that our differences are things to celebrate. Boobys are really birds - you might want to look them up on the internet and share your learning with your children. They are fascinating creatures that sound like the background in the story.

v Then there's our third story - "The Tree That Could Fly" written by Alma H. Bond, PhD. This magical story will have kids wondering "can trees really fly?" What a delightful thought that a young fairy would grant such an awesome experience to an old tree. This story is also available in print at many local bookstores.

v Have you ever had both parents sick at the same time? Our story "Wanda's Wacky Washing Machine" tells of the funny things that can come of such an event. It is written by Katherine Jeffrey.

v Our final story of #005 is a familiar feeling for many of us in the morning. It is called "The Grouchies That Live in My Head" and is also written by Katherine Jeffrey. Thank heavens we don't feel this way everyday!

That's just the stories - then there are some amazing musical segments to this program. The musicians are also from all over the world. Remember: we have made sure all the lyrics are appropriate for this age group!

v Lou Del Bianco, from New York, gives us a special look at eating dinner with his spunky "Separate on the Plate". He helps us notice and look at feelings about how and what we eat. Is there a "Picky" eater at your house?

v And "Soakin' My Toes" - well Danny Corbett makes this a finger-snapping experience. Don't we all love to soak our toes in fresh water? When was the last time you and the kids got to do that? Maybe you can find a creek or river or lake (or even ocean) nearby and try it again!

v Who ever thought about being green? Kermit? He says "it isn't easy being green". But Abe Moore gives us a different idea in the song "Green People". We walk around Zade's Little Shop smiling, tipping our hats and saying "I wanna paint my skin green too". Such a nice message about differences being OK - kind of like the red-footed booby chick learned!

v Then we have a song that comes to us all the way from Australia. Peter Combe has written "Rock & Roll is all you Need" and we love having the international flair for this edition of Zade's Little Shop. Rock & Roll is sure fun to dance to - how about joining your kids --- or teaching them the jitterbug? Please send videos to Zade's Little Shop, P. O. Box 55, Troy, MT 59935. We'd love to laugh with you!

v And the final song is entitled "Walkin' in the Sun" by Jake Chenier. Jake is from Canada - so we really have a plethora (good word) of talent on this CD. This song conjures up all sorts of visions of beaches, animals and landscapes. What do you see?

So, if any of these stories or music sound like something that might entertain your kids (and even you grown-ups(?)) - take a listen to Zade's Little Shop of Dissimilar Thinking & Tinkering #005 and you'll want the whole thing. You can have an hour of relaxation and know that your kids are being well cared for in the hands of Zade and his friends. So, order one for you and one for a good friend. Share the fun!
