ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Zena (zay-nah) Allen's debut EP, Service of Song, emerges out of the subtle collision of folk and blues with the prolific lullabies of a storyteller. While conjuring the spirit of the city with her tales of love, loss, and redemption, Zena employs a style of ferocious honesty and simplistic innovation that defines her artistry.
The 23 year old Amherst, Massachusetts native is a self proclaimed nomad who spent the majority of her formative years living in Iowa, Minnesota, Florida, Belize, Mexico, and Oakland, California but now calls Los Angeles her home. It was here that she taught herself to play guitar over the past two years and penned a collection of songs that she openly calls personal.
Zena's music resonates with an eclectic blend of blues, folk, and soul that draws influences from the likes of Mississippi John Hurt, Tom Waits, and Ani Difranco. After only two years of honing her craft as a singer and expanding her repertoire of poems into songs, she is helping to redefine the realm of grassroots music with intelligent writing and a voice that converges in tantalizing rhythms, haunting the listener and submerging them in her world's complexity.
Zena Allen can be seen performing around the Los Angeles area at several acoustic venues such as Highland Grounds, Tangier, and Rockotitlan Café. Her debut EP, Service of Song, will be available in July at Amoeba music in Los Angeles, online at Cdbaby.com, and via snail mail through her own, Lunar Blues Records, music label.

Great Album
This is a great album if you enjoy acoustic guitar and sexy smooth female vocals as much as I do. Wonderful lyrics supported by fantastic strings make for one great album.
