Born Of Fire

by Zone

Zone 2nd album. A simply devastatingly gorgeous work, a kind of hideous beauty which reveals itself slowly to the careful listener. It exudes a reverent majesty and ecclesiastical solemnity.

Album Notes
Zone is the creative working relationship of Chris Brandrick and Andrew Cadmore and was formed with Potentia during the Spring of 1988.

"Zone is a creative unit, based in the United Kingdom, who recognise the apparently differing individual, social and religious needs inherent in all cultures as permutations upon the central NEED for Love, Life and Light.

The constant revelation of this NEED allows one to be open to an ever expanding awareness of the communicative interconnections potentially inherent in everything. Zone's field of work lies in the expression and communication, through varying artistic media, of this vast expanse of potential energy and the constant revelation when one is receptive to this NEED."

Originally released jointly between Potentia Records and Luciano Dari's Italian record label Musica Maxima Magnetica (catalogue No.ZONE 003/eee 005) the recording appeared during February 1991 in CD format only, as an initial edition of 1000 copies. The CD was reissued on Potentia Records in 1994 in a further edition of 1000 copies.

The name 'Born Of Fire' was taken from Jamil Dehlavi's film of the same name, staring Suzanne Crowley, Peter Firth, Stefan Kalipha and Nabil Shaban. The name was chosen simply because there was a clear sense of synchronicity between both the name and the raw subject matter of this film and much of Zone's idea's at that time.

"The fire by means of which fusion is attained is produced by 'friction', which in its turn is produced in man by the struggle between 'yes' and 'no'. If a man gives way to all his desires, or panders to them, there will be no inner struggle in him, no 'friction', no fire. But if, for the sake of attaining a definite aim, he struggles with desires that hinder him, he will then create a fire which will gradually transform his inner world into a single whole."

"Listen to the reed how it tells a tale
complaining of separations-...
This noise of the reed is fire, it is not wind:
whoso hath not this fire, may he be naught!
'Tis the fire of Love that is in the reed..."

It's great! If you have a soul, don't loose this music... It's a masterpiece!

Born of an otherworldy vision.
Zone aren't that well known outside cult electronica circles, which is a shame. Their low profile has kept them safe from compromise, but it's time more people in the know knew about their four albums. It's intense music, but never too heavy. Like meditation by other means. If you love music that turns your head *and* expands it...
